Another July kit layout...

The first layout I did with the July kit was lots of browns and blues, and quite masculine.  Today, I've used some of the other papers in the kit and produced a much more girly layout!

The labels on the Cosmo Cricket paper are ideal for cutting out, and the flowers and lace in the kit help to give a feminine touch!

I like being able to pull the hessian apart and use the individual strand like twine.  I've wrapped it around this cut-out section from the BoBunny paper, and used it on the buttons too.

We still have some July kits left - they can be found here on the website :)

A little card....

Morning all...One of my fav lines of the past six months has to be the simple stories line called...Summer Fresh ...the colours are outstanding and beautiful together.

So after using most of it over the last few months,I am left with a few scraps...so I decided to make a quick card.

One of the things I love working with is stickers, especially if they are from the same line...but it is hard to move stickers around to find it's correct space...so this is what I do.

I keep a tub of talcum powder in my scrapbooking room.

If you dust the backs of these it takes the sticky off...it works really quickly and quite sadly it makes all my stuff smell nice and reminds me of my son when he was little.

What if i change my mind? and decide not to use it? I keep a little temporary adhesive dot to add to the back so it can go back onto the sticker sheet.

I also love cards that have bits hanging off the edges...but these don't fit into a normal size envelope. So, if i am sending it in the post I pop it in a bigger envelope, but if I am handing my card to someone in person, i just wrap it up along with the gift.

July crop time!

It doesn't seem possible that another month has been and gone and here we are again ready for our monthly crop!  This month I've used Crate Paper Pretty Party papers for the kit.  I love the colours in this and they go so well with this picture of my daughter.

The layout is not as 'busy' as some of my crop kits, but there is paint splattering, stamping and embossing with the gorgeous Frantage embossing enamel :)

There are still spaces if anyone wants to join us tomorrow - just drop me an email :)

BoBunny Country Garden

Hi, its Lou here with a couple of examples of what you can do with the gorgeous BoBunny Country Garden Collection now in store and online.

To create this page I really needed very little embellishment as the papers are so detailed, yet remain delicate. the soft colours are perfect for your spring and summer photos, but with blues and newsprint patterns, they lend themselves to both girl and boy pages.

I used a sheet of acetate behind my layout to hold my large title, which I wanted to stand alone and be see-through.
I used two sheets of the same paper to punch out and raise some elements. This just added subtle depth.

My card was put together in a couple of minutes. By taking a square of detailed Country Garden, I only needed to add a sentiment, flower, leaf and some twine...the rest was all done for me!

I hope you get chance to have a go with some of the gorgeous Country Garden collection...I'm sure you'll find it easy to make stunning layouts and cards in no time with it.

Sightseeing...with the July kit

Today I'm going to share with you the first layout I made using July's kit.  The browns and blues really lend themselves to a masculine layout, and I've used a photo of my husband on a trip to Paris.  I used the reverse of the BoBunny Tapestry paper for my base and gutted the centre so I could use some of the blue side on the layout too.

I really like the hessian in the kit and the texture that it gives - I've used it as a mat behind the photo, and also behind a tear at the top of the page.  I've also unwoven a few strands and tied them in a knot in the centre of the layout.

It's the first time I've used Tim Holtz kraft glassine and I enjoyed experimenting with it.  I embossed it firstly and ran a distress ink pad lightly over the top.

The glassine can also be creased very easily, so I cut out some ivy leaves, inked them and added the veins by folding and creasing.

You can find the July kit here, along with a co-ordinating cardstock pack.  I'll show you a completely different layout using the kit next time!

Product Review...Texture Paste!

Thanks to everyone who commented on the UKS blog hop - we've chosen a winner at random and that's Sue (UKS MiniOwner) - if you can email us we'll get your voucher to you!

I thought I'd show you a bit more with the Martha Stewart texture paste today.  I was absolutely thrilled when Vanessa managed to get some in stock! I just had to take some home that night to play with (all in the name of research obviously!) Here are some different ways I have discovered you can use it...

It comes in a small pot. The paste will usually require a bit of mixing before use as it does tend to seperate if it has stood for a while. However, although a large spreader is ideal for applying the paste over a mask, it would be too wide to fit into the tub. A lollystick is ideal for stirring and scooping the paste out first.

Probably the most obvious, and the first that springs to mind is to spread it over a mask. I love this effect, and you can make it as thick and bumpy or thin and smooth as you like.
The paste will take a couple of hours to dry, or a little less if you apply some heat to it, but too much heat will cause the paste to bubble.
As the texture paste is white and chalky, it will leave a white residue on anything it touches. But this could work to your advantage, leaving a subtle design when applied then wiped away with kitchen paper...
You could also add shine and colour top the paste. Try taking a bit of paste into an eggcup and mixing in some paint or ink. Here I have added some Silver ink, which is perfect for a metal effect...

Whilst the paste is still wet you can decorate it with gems, glitter or microbeads.
For a freestyle effect, splodge some on a page and use a spreader to smear the paste around.
You could try 'splatting' the pasteoff of your spreader or stick. This is a bit less predictable as to where it will go on your page, but you will get some lovely big textural lumps.

Above I have put some onto my page , and whilst it was damp, I sprinkled some embossing powder onto it. below is the effect i got on the same piece after heating it...ideal to create the effect of rust or moss!
So there are some ideas to get you started with texture paste, I hope you have as much fun using it as I did!

UKS blog hop

Welcome to the 2nd UK Scrappers blog hop!  The original post on UKS is here, and hopefully you've arrived here from Make The Day Special.  I hope you're finding lots of interesting projects - I decided to make a canvas for you...

For this simple canvas piece, I sprayed one pump of glimmermist onto the canvas, and tilted the board to let the ink run a little before using a heat gun to dry the colour. I made sure each colour was dry before I moved onto the next.

When I was happy with my coloured rainbow, I positioned my black and white photos in place so that I could plan where my title would go.

To create the title, I took some sheets of chipboard letters and pushed out the letters that I would need in my title.
I then used the negatives as a stencil and smoothed Martha Stewart Texture Paste over the letter.

For the butterflies, I used a Martha Stewart Punch All Over The page Butterfly Punch to make another stencil, and used this with the texture paste in the same way.

I added some white flowers and a leaf to finish...

Thanks for dropping by!  The next blog you need to visit is Quixotic Paperie.  We're giving away a £10 gift voucher to one lucky person who comments on our blog - and don't forget to comment on the UKS thread when you've visited everyone!  Enjoy the rest of the hop :)

dylsuions tag

Hi, its Carol here, and today I'm going to show you how to make this:-

Prepare your tag as per the instructions in my previous post - here I have used turquoise and red based dylusions ink sprays. Once dry, stamp background using sewing based stamps (available in store)

Using a Tim Holtz alterations die, sewing room, cut the body form from grungepaper - spritz inks onto a craft mat and drag the die cut thro' - I have done this several times to get the depth of colour I was after, if you want extra depth add further colour using distress inks.....take a piece of vintage ribbon and colour using the left over inks on your craft mat - dry.  Using a white pen, add hi-lights and definition to the shape.

Colour a piece of copy paper with yellow/orange based inks, dry - when completely dry, cut using the Tim Holtz Alterations die - tattered florals, and make into the flower shown.  Colour three pieces of trim with the same yellow/orange based inks.

Outline your tag with white pen and edge using a brown distress ink.

Tie your ribbon to the dress form, add a jump ring and some bling.  Adhere bling and pearls to the bottom of the tag, add the coloured flowered trim and then the rose...add a couple of beaded pins....

I hope you've like this little tutorial - if you make a tag along the same lines please post and share...
