Easy DIY No Sew Journal

 Hello,

I have a new journal to share with you today.

We've decided after 25yrs to move home!!
It's such a big deal isn't it?!

Anyway, we are relocating to a whole new area, so I want to document the whole home search in a new journal. Keep all these new memories together in one place.

I was going to make another 'Little Golden Book' journal, but I fancied trying something new.

So I have a 'No Sew' DIY journal using an old book.

I'm so happy with how this turned out.

Look how cute! It's got a lovely warm and vintage feel. Perfect for our search for a new home.

It's from Echo Part and is called 'Dream Big Little Girl'

I started with a book from my husband's book shelf that he was happy to declutter.

It has a lovely linen feel cover, which I covered up the wording with a piece of fabric and a little journal card that I've had for years.

I removed about half the pages inside and used the papers from the Echo park collection to add some added colour.

Here is one page that I added. It's larger than the book pages so I could fold it over which works perfect with the double sided papers.

 
Here is another page I added. This time I cut the paper longer, used a punch along the bottom and folded it up, using double sided sticky both sides to create a little pocket.

This page is quite similar but torn, no punched edge and I didn't create a pocket. This page can be pulled down.

This one is a half sized pocket made from vellum and I've used a sticker and a scrap piece of paper.

This page was cut to 3/4 size of the width.

I loved this paper here.

I cut a couple of pieces out to create small flips.

And I used a large punch to create lots of tabs along the side and the top.

I'm so happy with this new journal and can't wait to document our new home adventures.

A boys night with Rosie's Studio

Hello again, Julie here with another Rosie's Studio project.  This month I took the gorgeous ephemera pack from the Roll With It collection and decided to use it in a slightly different way.  This ephemera pack is filled with 160 colourful, fun, summertime pieces that will be brilliant to compliment any layout or to create vibrant embellishments.  There are colourful characters, hearts, bikes and beautiful flowers.  However, I wanted to take this wonderful collection and use it in an alternative way for a picture of the men in my family.  I sometimes find I overlook bright collections but I am convinced you can make any collection work for you!

I took a sheet of buttercream Bazzill card stock and some turquoise paint that I had lurking in the back of my stash and used a gift card to spread it on the paper for a background.  I find this process very liberating and a great way to create that splash of colour as a base.  I then used a charcoal spray (this is a similar one) to add some texture to the background.

I ripped a sheet of paper I had in my stash and placed it as a strip to act as a base for my photo and then got to work choosing the embellishments.  I used the colours in the photo as a base and found some gorgeous flowers and contrasting colour hearts that I layered to create simple, yet fun clusters to accent the photo.  I also used several sayings from my favourite Simply Charming puffy stickers sentiments and some puffy hearts from the One Of a Kind collection.

I then felt like the background needed a little something extra so I sewed circles in matching colours to the ephemera.  The circles are central to the background but I set my photo more to the right hand side.  I am new to the world of incorporating sewing into my paper crafting but I love the effect it has.  I finally used some old alpha stickers I had in my collection to create a title.

Crate Paper Gingham Garden - Side by Side

Hello, Karen here. Today I have a layout to share using the new Gingham Garden collection from Crate Paper. This collection has a soft pastel colour palette and if full of florals, ginghams and watercolour patterns. It is soooooo pretty and I am loving creating with it. It would be ideal for spring layouts, heritage layouts, wedding layouts. baby layouts and lots of other themes. Today I've created a layout using three photos of my daughter investigating a statue found when we were on holiday one summer.

I started by mounting a trimmed down sheet of the Souvenir paper (B side) onto a sheet of 12x12 white cardstock leaving a narrow boarder round the edge. Strips of the Nostalgia paper and Lovely One paper were then layered at the top of the layout and using my sewing machine I straight stitched along all the edges with white thread to add some texture to the layout.

Three 3x4 photos were triple matted in a row with white cardstock, Lovely One paper and Picnic (B side) paper. Finally they were placed onto a slightly larger piece of the Nostalgia paper and attached to the layout with 3D foam underneath.

Using my Silhouette Cameo I cut a 'Side by Side' cutfile by Peartree Crafts. The cutfile was cut twice - once in smooth white cardstock and once in smooth black cardstock. The white cutfile was backed with the Picnic paper and then the two cutfiles were layered, slightly offset, on top of each other to create a shadow effect. When placed on the layout the cutfile stands out more because of the shadow effect.

Three embellishment clusters were created on the layout - two by the photos and one in the top right corner.

Each cluster contained die cuts from the Ephemera pack, flowers fussy cut from the Fresh Air paper, stickers from the sticker book and some wood veneer leaves and butterfly from my stash. The embellishment pack contains a variety of die cuts cut from shiny cardstock, paper or vellum and some have foil accents. 

To balance the clusters I made sure each one included peach, yellow and aqua elements. In the cluster at the top of the page I also included the date, die cut from the green paper.

Finally I sprinkled a few pale green sequins by each cluster to add some sparkle.

I'm really pleased how this layout turned out. It is so pretty and I hope you like it too.

Love - 49 and Market - Art Options Rouge Collection

Hi, Rebecca with you, and today I’m sharing my first layout created with the ‘Art Options Rouge’ collection from 49 and Market. This is such a stunning collection filled with reds, pinks and greens and perfect for documenting so many memories. You can shop the collection here. 

I was inspired by the different shades of red and pink in this collection and decided to have a play with my Alcohol Inks and create a mixed media background. For alcohol inks to work properly and react with the blending solution, a special paper is required. It’s actually more like plastic than cardstock! 

I begun by adding some isopropyl alcohol to my background and then added different shades of red alcohol ink. The inks immediately started to react with the isopropyl and blend together forming a gorgeous effect. I added more isopropyl and then moved the inks around using a blower tool. I applied the inks diagonally on my background, making sure to add enough so that I wouldn’t cover it all up when I started to build my layout on top! 

The alcohol inks dried pretty quickly, which is great for me as I’m quite impatient! I added a layer of red Bazzill cardstock behind my photo, along with a layer of foam, and placed it in the centre of my page. Around it, I embellished with florals and leaves from the Laser Cut Outs - Wildflower. I adore these packs in 49 and Market collections - there are always so many pieces in them and they are always so beautiful. 

I layered the florals diagonally through my photo, following the line of the mixed media. 

For my title, I used a chipboard word from Dusty Attic which says ‘Love’. To make it more interesting (and sparkly!), I heat embossed it with a gold embossing powder. Heat embossing on chipboard is so easy and really jazzes it up. 

I finished off my layout with a few phrase banners and hearts from the chipboard set, some gold splatters and some sequins in coordinating colours. 

I hope you’ve enjoyed this layout. The Rouge collection is truly stunning and I can’t wait to get stuck back in with my second layout.

Simple Stories - Flea Market - Welcome Home

Hi there,

Claire here today sharing my second layout with you using the Flea Market collection from Simple Stories. 

I am loving this collection - the colours are just perfect for Spring. So vibrant and happy. 

For my base, I used a piece of Premium White Cardstock. I applied a thin coat of clear gesso as I planned to add watercolour to the background. 

Whilst the gesso was drying, I cut three 3.5" squares of patterned paper and added a row of machine stitching around each one, distressing the edges for extra texture.

I used:

• All the Things
• You're My Fave and
• Oh, Yes Please

For the square holding my photo, I applied a double mount, also using a piece of pink Bazzill cardstock from the Matchmaker Pack.

I placed the squares roughly on my page and drew a light pencil outline to mark where the papers would sit before applying two different shades of watercolour paint with a brayer.

Once the paint had dried, I adhered each square with foam pads, laid them diagonally down the page and began to embellish.

I pulled out lots of florals from the Floral Bits & Pieces pack - there are so many in here! 48 pieces in total and they're all a decent size so are quite impactful, making the pack go a long way.

I created three clusters - at the top, middle and bottom of the design, using a mix of florals and leaves.

Some are adhered flat to the page, whilst others are raised on foam the give the clusters height. I added the leaves with Glossy Accents, sliding these in amongst the flowers and curling the leaves for dimension.

I used the bottom square as the anchor to hold my title.

To create it, I used the word Home from the Chipboard Stickers, and teamed this with the key from the same pack. For Welcome, I used some Puffy Alpha stickers from the Pinkfresh Studio Life Right Now range, which complement the colours in the Flea Market collection beautifully.

As a final touch, I added a few extra embellishments around my photo. I selected a colourful tag and small sentiment saying  'So Cute' from the Journal Bits & Pieces Pack. I sat it along the top edge of my picture, helping tie in all the colours together.

I hope you've enjoyed this quick and simple layout. It really was a pleasure to create as the patterned paper and floral ephemera make such an impact, it really didn't need lots more.

Paige Evans ~ Blooming Wild 🦋

Hello everyone, welcome back to the Papermaze blog.

 It’s Anna back with you today, and I’m happy to be sharing my second layout using Paige Evans’ latest collection, Blooming Wild.

To create this page I began with the ‘b’ side of Paper #5 as my base. I set my silhouette cameo to work to cut out a Paige Evans butterfly cutfile. I cut this out of white cardstock, but I added two shades of Distress Ink to achieve the shade of Green I wanted. 

Once my delicate cutfile was safely stuck down, I selected my photos. I had some pictures from a butterfly garden in Walt Disney World, so I chose a few and trimmed them down to fit in some of the gaps around the cutfile. 

I fussy cut lots of butterflies from Paper #16 and adhered them over some of the butterflies on my cutfile.

I added some of the cardstock stickers tucked in around my photos and cutfile. 

I added a title using some Pinkfresh alpha stickers. 

I finished with adding a boarder sticker from the cardstock stickers to the left hand side of my layout.

Springtime at the Old Post Office - This first layout will be framed to hang in the reception of The Old Post Office Hotel and Spa, in Harleston. I took these photos of their Easter decorations last year.

I took the beautiful 'Celebrate Life' paper and with a craft knife we gutted the centre of the wreath.

I cut the word 'Springtime' using the Cricut and the Silver Sage Bazzill. I used the cut-out area as a stencil to ink through onto the 'Coloured Foundations #1' paper, with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink, (I used the wreath over the foundation paper to work out the desired position for the title). I flicked Distress Mica Spray (Winter Frost) over the paper.

Then I stuck the cut-out letters, offset, over the inked letters to create a shadow.
With some funky foam I mounted the wreath over the pink sheet of 'Coloured Foundations #1' paper.

I used the Pinkfresh Studio mini puffy alpha stickers from the kit to add the rest of the title.

The photos were added into place over the title and inside the wreath.

Next, I cut a selection of butterflies from the 'Shine Bright' paper and arranged these around the wreath and the photos. I glued the centre of the butterflies down onto the page and I placed 3D foam pads under the wings to add dimension.

Finally, I scattered dots of Nuvo Crystal Drops in matching pastel shades around the leaves of the wreath.

Easter Egg Hunt - When the triplets visited during the Easter break last year, I organised an egg hunt for them, the clues were all wat3words locations. After teaching them to use the app and lending them mobile phones, they set off all over the garden to find their eggs.

For this layout I gutted the 'Day Dreams' paper to make a 4cm frame. Over this I placed the White Bazzill, trimmed down to 25.5cm x 25.5cm.

I cut a strip of 'Blooms' paper 10cm deep and placed this, yellow side up, across the page. I then mounted my five small photos on a strip of Silver Sage Bazzill, 8cm deep and 26cm wide. This was mounted over the Day Dreams strip.

I cut two more strips of 'Blooms' paper, bunny side up, one 24.5cm x 2.75cm for the top of the white cardstock. The other 24.5cm x 5cm for the base of the cardstock.

I cut a lace trim, with more of the Silver Sage cardstock and the Sizzix Tim Holtz Thinlits set - Crochet. I placed this along the bottom of the page. 

I cut the Peartree Cutfile 'Egg Hunt' from white card, and coloured it by blending Distress Ink colours across it. I backed the eggs with Bazzill cardstock scraps and the letters with scraps of 'Celebrate Life' paper left over from the previous layout. I mounted this across the middle of the page.

To complete the title I spelt 'Easter' with Thickers cardstock letters - Maggie, to place at the top of the layout.

With Sizzix Tim Holtz Thinlits Alphanumeric - Label, I cut more letters and the date from Silver Sage Bazzill. I placed this lettering either side of the word 'Egg'.
