An Introduction to Creative Journaling

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a wonderful week!

I'm back today, as promised, to write a little introduction to creative journaling. It's a creative outlet that I myself only discovered a year ago, however it's fast become one of my favourite ways to document my life. For most people, creative journaling is done in a traveller's notebook, but really all you need is some paper, photos and craft supplies. This particular spread was made primarily using the Crate Paper Oasis collection, which you can find at Papermaze here.

Essentially, I treat each page of my notebook as a miniature scrapbook layout; I use papers, die cuts, stickers and stamping to embellish my photos. Of course, I also journal! I think that viewing the project as a scrapbook layout can help to combat that "empty page" fear. Sometimes, if a page seems overwhelming, I cover the whole thing with scrapbook paper to create a fun background that doesn't need embellishing.

One of my favourite aspects of creative journaling, is how tactile my notebooks are. I create pockets for photos and tags, leaving twine and tabs overlapping the edges of the page. The notebooks soon become chunky and filled with hidden treasures, they're so lovely to flip through! Not only that, but they're much easier to store than 12x12 layouts... though that hasn't stopped me from continuing my 12x12 yearly Project Life albums!
