Travel Journaling with Flip Pages

Hi, Lisa here.
It's been a little while since I've been here on this blog. But I'm wanting to make my journaling and creating more of a priority now.
It means so much to me and makes me feel so good and yet it's always so low down on my list of priorities. Do you find that too?
So Today I'm sharing a new page in my travel journal that I've created on my new YouTube channel 'its only paper' which is dedicated to journaling.

I used the Echo Park Collections here.

Don't ever be put off, these are great for other types of scrapbooking, not just for Disney. As you can see here.

I wanted to add lots of photos to this page. I thought the best was to add flip pages. You can see in greater detail how these were made in the video here:

I wanted to add some journaling to my page so added some little flips by cutting pieces from the papers and also adding notepaper to my page.

I had so much fun creating little tabs and adding photos and journaling undeneath.

I really hope you've enjoyed this today.

Carta Bella By The Sea - Portland Bill

Hello, Karen C back again today with my second scrapbook layout using the By The Sea collection from Carta Bella. This collection is perfect for scrapbooking all those memories of days spent by the sea and on the beach. I decided to scrapbook a memory of a visit we made to Portland Bill lighthouse a couple of years ago.

For the base of my layout I used a sheet of white 12 x 12 Bazzill cardstock. Onto the cardstock I smooshed some watered down pale blue acrylic paint and then when it was dry I splattered some white acrylic paint on top. Much of the paint was eventually hidden, but what is visible gives some subtle added texture.

I layered pieces of the Beach Woodgrain and Coastal Words papers onto the layout and after matting my photo on red cardstock I attached this too, with some foam underneath to add some dimension.

A frame from the Ephemera and Frames pack was cut in half and one half  was tucked underneath the bottom edge the woodgrain paper. Three lighthouses were fussy cut from one of the journalling cards and attached to the corner of the photo, again with foam underneath.

The words 'By The Sea' were cut from the branding strip of one of the papers and stuck beneath the  lighthouses and I tied a knot in a piece of natural twine (left over from my previous layout) and stuck this on too. I used some tacky glue to stick down the twine. I find tacky glue is excellent for sticking twine, ribbon, etc.

The remaining part of the frame which I had previously cut in half, was placed at the top left of the layout as well as an image cut from the Sea & Sand paper.  

I recoloured some Simple Stories Sn@p letter stickers with a red marker pen and used these for my title.

I printed my journaling strips onto white cardstock using the computer and placed these at the bottom of the layout. I outlined the journaling strips with a black fine liner pen and also doodled round the edge of the layout and the edges of the papers.

I finished off the layout with a few blue sequins and the date was added with some tiny letter stickers.

Birthday Treat.....Kate and Ash Collection

Hi There, 

It's Anita back with you today and I have my 3rd layout using the Kate and Ash Collection from Simple Stories.

This time I have created a page to remember a special birthday treat from our eldest daughter....my first visit to Kaspa's, a dessert specialists in Hastings. Quite an experience!

I used both sides of a sheet of Super Like for the background. I sliced off the top 4" of the sheet and flipped it round, then joined it back together with tape. I turned it back over and used the spotty white and black border sticker to cover the join.

I gently splattered black acrylic paint across the page...well I say gently....that was the intention! However I think I overloaded the brush or made the paint a little too wet....and this in turn made the splats a little larger than I had planned...it's all good though.

I also used some Distress Stains to make some large, brightly coloured splats. I chose Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Carved Pumpkin. I really enjoy using these inks...the harder you hit them on the page, the bigger and more impressive the splat! (my dress is testament to that!)

 I had a rummage through my basketful of packs of AC Thickers and various other Alphabet stickers in my stash that I have collected over the years and settled for these black and white spotty ones to make my title. Then just added a little bit of handwritten journalling underneath...I really dislike my handwriting but sometimes feel its important to leave a little bit of *me* on my pages for when I am not about anymore....also my printer has broken!!

I matted my photos and then cut various elements from a few different sheets to scatter about the page. Some bits I layered up and over lapped. The sheets used were:

So that's my page. This collection is just so lovely, vibrant and fun and I have really enjoyed working with it. There is a vast selection of collections from Simple Stories in the shop....along with plenty of other delightful ranges and other products...pop along and treat yourself!

'Awesome Buddies' - Simple Stories Bro & Co

Hello, it's Rebecca here today sharing with you my second layout created using the Bro & Co Collection by Simple Stories. I'm loving how 'boyish' this collection is - perfect for documenting some photos of my husband and son enjoying some quality time on holiday recently playing crazy golf!

I was really drawn to the 'Totally Legit!' patterned paper and wanted it to feature heavily on my layout, but it was a little too 'busy' to use the whole sheet for my background. I decided to cut a large section for the top of my layout, with the bottom cut at an angle heading down to a point in the centre. I then cut two smaller triangle sections for the bottom, to give me a white space in the centre for my photos, resembling a chevron. I then selected the 'Level Up!' patterned paper and cut a small section to slot underneath the 'Totally Legit!' paper, and distressed all the edges with my scissor blade.

I felt like the top section of the layout looked a little 'flat' (quite literally!) but it was too busy to embellish - so I used the discarded middle section of the paper and fussy-cut a number of the words. I then adhered them over the corresponding words on the top section with foam dots behind to add dimension to the layout.

I matted my photos onto white cardstock and then onto a co-ordinating mustard coloured card from the 'Bazzill Plain Matchmaker Kit' - this colour matches the background paper, and the shorts my son is wearing in the photos perfectly! I positioned my photos into the centre of the layout, and added a couple of stickers around them from the 'Combo Stickers' sheet.

I centered my title under the photos using the 'awesome' from the 'Foam Stickers' and 'Buddies' from the combo stickers sheet. I added some chipboard chevrons by Dusty Attic either side of the 'buddies' sticker and added three Doodlebug 'Star-fetti shape sprinkles' underneath. 

I finished my layout but fussy-cutting some of the stars from the 'It's All Good' patterned paper and adhering them using foam pads around my photos to break up the white space.

Bonus Layout - Crave the Wave - Heidi Swapp Art Walk

Happy Sunday!

Claire here, popping on to share an extra layout made with the Heidi Swapp Art Walk collection. I decided to call this layout 'Crave the Wave' - very apt for my springer spaniel who grew up on the beach and is mad for the sea.

I used this beautiful Sea to Sky paper for my base which is just perfect for a seaside layout. The paper has a mixed media effect that means most of the hardwork is already done for you! Bonus indeed! :) 

To add a more beachy feel, I decided to trim the paper and ruffle the edges, before positioning it on white Premium cardstock. I had recently purchased this Echo Park Summertime Seashells stencil from the shop which I couldn't help but pair it with this paper. I added gold texture paste across opposite corners to help frame the photos.

I have a lot of pictures of this day and so challenged myself to use at least 3 photos on my layout, as I always tend to stay in my comfort zone of using just one or two. In this case I managed four (miracle for me!) and positioned them across the page as shown.

The Cardstock Stickers included some lovely gold, blue and red stickers that matched the page and my photos so I took a selection of these and placed them around my photos. I also added the red adventure sticker and red heart from my stash and the yellow 'seeker of magic' embelishment from the Pinkfresh Studio Noteworthy ephemera pack.

To finish the page, I made my title with a mixture of two alpha sets and added some gold netting from my stash. Finally, I added some white paint splashes and red nuvo drops.

Photoplay - We can just stay home #3

Hi :) It's Anna back today to share my third and final layout with the Photoplay - We can just stay home collection.

You can see my first post here and my second here using this collection as well as other elements from my DT Kit.

The story behind this page is that it was our first visit somewhere after lockdown restrictions had began to ease, a trip to the seaside, with plenty of space to socially distance. It was so nice to do something normal.
For this layout, I wanted to use this Jillibean soup placemat, I don't have a cutting machine (just yet!) so this was the closest thing to a cut file in my stash!

It was a time consuming task, but I really enjoyed it, I don't think the photos quite do it justice, but I was really pleased with the effect. I selected various scraps of papers from the collection, along with some cardstock scraps and some glittered paper to back each of the sections.

I then chose a cut apart card from the 'family fun' paper and mounted it alongside my photo onto the reverse side of the Don't Hurry patterned paper. I added in a small strip of the reverse of the PJ's All Day paper, so I could use a foam word sticker from the Simple Stories Summer Farmhouse foam stickers which was yellow and wouldn't have worked otherwise.

Finally, I added a few finishing touches using some of the foam stickers from the Simple Stories Summer Farmhouse foam stickers, Pebbles Puffy dots and Simple Stories Dive into Summer Element Stickers to add a few beach details.

I made a little journaling tag from a luggage tag, adding a sticker from the Simple Stories Dive into Summer Element Stickers, some twine and another heart sticker from the Summer farmhouse foam stickers. I added some wording 'stay' to the sticker to make it appropriate for this layout. On the reverse of the tag, I added some journaling. I haven't stuck it down, just tucked in.

August Papermaze Kit

Hello, Lynn here with the summery August Papermaze Kit. These kits are proving very popular so pop over to the shop if you want to order one for yourself.

Today I have my first pair of layouts to share, both featuring the busy papers form Simple Stories Sometimes these papers can seem a little daunting as there is so much detail, but I find taking a little time to choose which elements to emphasise and other items needed to make them work, is time well worth investing Before looking at how these were made, here are the details of what you will find in the kit.

Happisburgh Lighthouse - We travelled to Norfolk at the end of July to source some architectural salvage items for the house and followed the coast road on the way home. Coming across the stunning Happisburgh Lighthouse we were disappointed not to be able to visit it due to Covid 19 restrictions, but at least we could take some photos from the outside.

I wanted to restore several images on the 'Beach Vibes' paper after the photo was added and so it was worth carefully working out the position of the photo and title before any cutting took place. I trimmed 1cm off each of the four sides of the paper to retain most of the images.

With a soft pencil I drew round my photo between images so I could tell where to cut. Using a craft knife I cut around the leaves, boat and seagulls only where they would otherwise be hidden by the photo. The pencil lines were rubbed out, and the paper mounted onto Whirlpool Bazzill (which had been gutted to create a frame of 2.5cm). The photo was then stuck in place.

I made a shaker box using the Sizzix Bigz Die - Steampunk Parts. I cut three layers of the basic shape and added the bolts to the top layer. With copper and verdigris embossing powder I embossed the front and sides of the top piece and the sided of the other two pieces. A piece of acetate was applied under the top layer and then the three layers were glued together. The whole thing was filled with tiny shells, prills, and a few dew drops before covering the back with a piece of Whirlpool Bazzill. The finished port hole embellishment was added to the bottom right of the photo.

I found some white twine in my stash and used this looped down the right side and across the bottom of the page.

The title was cut from Whirlpool Bazzill and arranged onto the page. I added more tiny shells and dew drops over the layout. I used some cheesecloth left over from last month's kit to apply along the bottom of the page and around the port hole. 

Finally I made a tiny tag for the date from the trimmed off paper scraps, and tied this to the twine with a little Baker's Twine.

Live, Love, Laugh - This layout features a photo I cherish of George and Catherine laughing at the end of the wedding ceremony last year.

I started this layout by choosing the elements I wanted from the 'You Can Fly' paper. I fussy cut the flowers, butterfly and some areas of the print background. I saved the scraps for my next page.

The Quartz Bazzill was gutted to make a frame 2.5cm deep. Then I trimmed the Fig Swirl Bazzill by about 1cm all round, tearing rather than cutting the edges and inking them with Distress Ink. I placed this centrally over the Quartz frame. With the 'Water Walk' paper I trimmed the planks also by tearing around the paper, cutting between the planks a little to give the impression of separating them. I made them different lengths at the top. This was inked and layered over the Fig Swirl Bazzill.

I arranged the photo and cut and inked images onto the page. The print and photo were glued down, before the flowers and butterfly were applied raised up with 3D foam tape.

I made a tag from scraps and wrote on the Yakov Smirnoff quote “If love is the treasure, laughter is the key”. Then to reflect the ribbon Wall in the photo, I added ribbon the hole in the tag.

Finally my title was created with Pinkfresh Studio Puffy Alpha Stickers - Office Hours.
