Simple Stories Simple Vintage Great Escape - I'm Still Standing

Claire back with you today sharing my second layout using the beautiful Simple Stories Simple Vintage Great Escape collection.

My layout is simple, with lots of white space - but I really love how it turned out.  I mentioned on my last blog that this collection has taken me on a journey and I think this layout is indicative of my destination.

I started with some Premium White Cardstock and a Distress Oxide in Iced Spruce. I applied the ink with a big stencil brush, building the colour very slowly in a random shape in the area I new my photo was going to sit.  Once I was happy with the colour, I added a few splatters of watered down ink and a few splatters of water to lift a few spots of colour away for a bit of extra interest.

The photo I chose to scrap is of a tree I found on a walk we had to the top of Howth Hill in Dublin a few years back.  The tree trunk had been slashed, probably struck by lightening I would guess, leaving it almost balancing on its tip - but it was standing as tall and strong as ever! So many parallels to the situation we have all found ourselves in during recent times.

I took a thin strip of the 3x4 Elements Paper (b side) and stitched it to my page - this would be the anchor point on which the rest of the layout would sit.

Next, I mounted my photo on one of the Chipboard Frames and added a ruffled piece of the 100% Natural paper and one of the cut aparts from the 3x4 Elements Paper behind it as an extra layer.

To the left of the photo, I punched a large circle from the Time for Adventure paper and added some mushrooms which I fussy cut from one of the 4x6 Journaling card papers. To the right, I fussy cut some additional leaves from the 3x4 Elements paper to balance the design.

For a little extra texture and dimension, I added two raw chipboard Foliage 20 leaves from Dusty Attic. I brushed them slightly with oxide ink but actually quite liked the rawness so left the ink very pale.

I scattered a few stickers from the Combo Stickers around the picture (the heart, arrow, small tag and the explore compass) and a bit of gold netting from my stash.

At the top of the page, I made a small cluster using the same ink technique as a base, to which I added a hand cut banner and a few more stickers.

To finish it off, I added the I'm Still Standing title using Kaisercraft alpha stickers.

And that was the page done!  I hope you like how it turned out.
