Mother's Day or Mothering Sunday?

Whichever name you use, there's something rather lovely about receiving those cute handmade cards the children bring home from school or nursery.

Speaking of cards, I finally got around to making mine last night and thought I'd share.

For the first card, I edged the front of a card blank with Fiskar's Threading Water border punch. I then cut a piece of My Minds Eye Penny Lane Feeling Groovy to about 4cm wide and the same height as the card blank. I edged the piece with Fiskar's Scalloped Sentiment border punch and then embossed it with Cuttlebug's Swiss Dots embossing folder. I attached the strip behind the front of the card blank.

I punched various sized circles of patterned paper, inked their edges and arranged to make flowers. I then cut very thin strips of paper for the stems. Once the flowers and stems were arranged and adhered to the card, I tied the stems with a short length of ribbon.

I started the second card by adding two pieces of the Penny Lane Feeling Groovy to the centre of the card. The top piece has been embossed with the Swiss Dots embossing folder and then lightly sanded. Both pieces have been edged with a scallop bladed trimmer.

Using the Maya Road Bird with Cage stamp set, I stamped the cage onto transparency using Dew Drop Brilliance pearlescent ink. I also used Brilliance pearlescent ink to stamp the bird and notes onto white card. I cut out the bird and the notes and adhered the bird to a piece of patterned paper to match the centre panel. I used foam squares to attach the stamped cage above the bird and then added a frame cut from patterned paper to cover the foam.

To finish the card, I adhered the notes to the frame and added the sentiment using more foam squares.
