September Papermaze Kit - Part 1

Hello, Lynn here today, with the autumnal Papermaze kit for September. A great kit of papers and embellishments collected together by Vanessa, ideal for the time of year.

Both the layouts are of my son, roughly 30 years apart! The first as a baby and the second as a PhD student.

Before looking at how the layouts are made, here are the details of what is in the kit.

Happy Little Moment - Here I have scrapped a series of photos of my baby playing in the travel cot. It looks a bit like he is giving a sermon!

I trimmed all my photos and two pieces of Kraft Bazzill to measure 3.25" x 3.25". They were all mounted onto pieces of 'Trail Mix' paper, cut to 3.5" x 3.5". I used both sides of this paper for mounting the photos and two journalling blocks.

The nine blocks were arranged in three rows of three on the pigment Bazzill, then offset. I tore up the remains of the 'Trail Mix' paper and used both sides again in patches around the edges of the Bazzill. 

My title was created with the Simple Stories Titles Foam Stickers from the kit over one of the journalling blocks.

On the other block I wrote some journalling, and a few details with Doodlebug Designs Alphabet Soup letter stickers in Mint.

Finally, I scattered the sequins from the kit across the layout.

A New Adventure - My son in the lab where he works at Loughborough University.

For this layout I used the paper called 'Little Details' for the background. I added more detail with some mixed media, using a selection of stamps, stencils and inks (Tim Holtz Stamps, Layering Stencils, Archival Ink and Distress Oxide Inks).

I made a small booklet by folding a 12" x 4" strip of 'Tidbits' paper, then adding the three brads from the kit along the spine. I placed a photo on the front and two more inside. The hardware brads were used on the spine of the booklet. 

I made a voltage metre with scraps of papers and card, using the Tim Holtz Bigz Sizzix die. 

For the title I used some of the titles foam stickers from the kit together with ek success - Sticks Scribble Alpha stickers from my stash.

Embellishments were some bits from the kit - a quote chip label, and a piece chipboard metal hardware. I added in some Idea-ology filmstrip ribbon and AC Thickers Storyteller phrase stickers.

September Papermaze Kit - Part 1

Hello, Lynn here today, with the autumnal September Papermaze Kit. This kit is a selection of six patterned papers, two sheets of Bazzill and a selection of embellishments. There is the extra option of four sheets of Bazzill perfectly matched to go with the papers.

To work with this kit, I have chosen to select the pink hues for my first layout and some pink and purples to go with the beautiful autumn wreath.

Bazzill Basics Extra Pack - Mauve Ice, Berrylicious, Apricot & Nixon. 

Shore Thing - A winter walk on the sea front at Pakefield, admiring all the pretty beach huts.

The backdrop for this layout is the sheet of P13 Hello Autumn #03, I love the shabby wooden boards in pink which reminded me of these beach huts.

I made a border using Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Colourize Woodgrain die set and several sheets of Bazzill Basics cardstock from the kit - Mauve Ice, Berryliscious and Juneberry. I made a total of eight panels, I cut two of them down to fit, then placed a pink brad in the corner of each panel. These were arranged to make a frame and attached with 3D foam tape.

With Raspberry Divine Twine, I made two washing lines across the page with the ends tucked under the wood panels. I trimmed the photos and pegged them to the lines, with Woodware Mini Clothes Pegs. For extra stability I used a little more foam tape under each photo.

I clipped some of the happy phrases from the selection in the kit and placed one on each photo. 

I used the chipboard tab from the kit, painted it with Worn Lipstick Distress Paint, and some old rub-ons from my stash for the date. I placed this at the top of my first photo. 

With the pack of Rosie's Studio - Brand New Day - Puffy Alpha Stickers (in the kit) I added the details of the place we were visiting.

The paper flowers from the kit were scattered over the page to add decoration, along with two decorative pins and two wooden houses from my stash. 

My title was created with the word 'shore' spelt out with ek Success Scribble Alpha Stickers and the word 'thing' using a VB Story Teller phrase sticker.

Harvest Festival - My children ready to set off to the Harvest Festival service in front of our house and a row of sunflowers.

For this layout I built everything up on the beautiful autumn wreath on this sheet of P13 - Hello Autumn - #02 paper. 

I mounted photos behind two of the chipboard frames from the kit. I glued the lower one down onto the paper and the other was raised up using 3D foam tape.

I embellished the page with a selection of paper flowers from my stash. The foilage was all created with Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits - Funky Florals. I cut them using Bazzill cardstock from the kit and extra match pack. 

I also used the P13 light chipboard leaves from the kit. 

For the title I drew a faint line with pencil to continue the circle for the wreath, at the top where there is a gap. Then I placed letters using more of the Rosie's Studio - Brand New Day - Puffy Alpha Stickers (in the kit). The date was made with Bazzill and Tim Holtz, Sizzix Thinlits - Alphanumeric Tiny Type set.

June Papermaze Kit - Part 2

Hello, It's Lynn here today with another two layouts made using the bright, sunny June Papermaze Kit. This month I have been experimenting with the Distress Embossing Glazes.

Before we look at how these layouts were made, this is what you will find in the kit:

Treble Act - This layout shows the children in their new rugby style tops from Kid's Stuff. The title of the layout is a play on words to the title of the favourite story by Jacquline Wilson - Double Act.

This time I trimmed a piece of White Bazzill to 27.5cm x 27.5cm, and I inked the edges with different colours of the rainbow. 

I gutted the centre from the Vicki Boutin - Let's Wander - Chasing Stars paper, so I had a frame 3cm deep. I mounted the bazzill centrally over the paper frame. Then I used the Cricut and an SVG file to cut a star wreath from the remaining paper.

With the star stencil from the kit I stencilled tiny stars in a circle using different coloured Distress Inks and a blending tool. Then I placed the star wreath over the stencilled stars.
I mounted my photo with two mats, from scraps of Stonewash and Candle Glow Medium Bazzill. This was mounted to the right of the wreath. I typed my journalling into a semi-circle and cut this out to place to the right of the photo. 

I created my title with American Crafts Thickers Paige Evans Happy Thoughts foam letter stickers in line with the wreath. Then I inked the edges of a few of the stars left over from cutting the wreath and added these to the page using foam tape for dimension. 

Finally I added some pretty sparkly star gems from my stash.

Make Your Own Magic -  This layout shows my daughter in Washington DC, taking part in a Christmas charity run called 'Jingle All the Way'. 

For this page I gutted the Red Rock Bazzill to give me a frame of 2.5cm. 

I trimmed the Heidi Swapp - Art Walk - Sea to Sky paper to measure 29.5cm x 29.5cm. I took a Tim Holtz Layering stencil, a Ranger Clear Emboss It Dabber and Distress Embossing Glazes in Fried Brick and Weathered Wood; I had been keen to try these glazes as I was interested to see how they worked, The translucent quality of them means they can be overlapped to give another shade of colour where the two combine. They give a high shiny finish and any pattern on the paper underneath will show through too. They give more of a tint of colour compared traditional embossing powders. 

I mounted my photos onto cardstock, using scraps of Red Rock and Stonewash, and arranged them across the middle of the page under the stars.

I printed my journalling in similar colours to the stars, onto some card, and trimmed the top of the panel with a binding edge EK Success punch. I placed this below the photos. 

I used the 'Believe' puffy sticker from the kit at the bottom left of the layout.

The title was made with the words 'Make Your Own Magic' from the Truly Grateful Puffy Phrase & Accent Sticker - AC Thickers set.

Kaisercraft - Romantique

Hello, Lynn here today, scrapbooking a heritage photograph of my great aunt. This month I am working with the elegantly classical papers from Kaisercraft's Romantique collection.

To present this photograph I picked out some silvery grey papers from the collection.  

The base is 'Smokey' Bazzill cardstock. Then with the script side of a sheet of 'RSVP', I trimmed the edges with a Martha Stewart - Punch Around The Page Punch 'Vintage Floral', and mounted this centrally on the cardstock. 

Using the grey hydrangea side of the 'Eiffel' paper, I cut this down to 9" x 9", then inking the edges with 'Hickory Smoke' Distress Ink, I mounted this piece in the centre of the layout. I love the shape of the blooms on this paper and decided to make a feature of the hydrangea, by building a large bloom on the page (see below).

I made a band of ribbons and lace horizontally, across the middle of the layout, layering up the embellishments of differing widths, materials and shades. Then my photograph was mounted onto white card to give a very fine border. The portrait was added to the left of the page. 

To create my bloom, I used a 'Hickory Smoke' Distress paint, then dabbed a little 'Spun Sugar' Distress Paint on top. I used a Martha Stewart 3 in 1 Hydrangea punch to make a lot of tiny flowers. A good alternative for this punch, that works just as well is the EK success Hydrangea Confetti Punch.  The punched shapes were all treated with the distress ink, and then layered up with double-sided 3D foam pads. The flower centres were created with Nuvo Glitter Drops, in 'Silver Moondust', to give a raised droplet. This product from Tonic Studios comes in many colours and different finishes, they are quick drying and add a great finishing touch. The finished bloom was added to the right of my photo.

From the Kaisercraft Romantique 'Butterflies Printed Acetate' sheet I cut four butterflies very close to the outlines. I bent the wings forwards and glued the bodies in place on the page with Glossy Accents. This made the butterflies stand out on the page, ideal for presenting in a box frame. In an album they are not as three-dimensional but still seem to hold their shape fairly well, as the acetate is a good weight.

The title was cut with a Sizzix Sizzlit alphabet and silver card. As a finishing touch I added some black flat-backed pearl swirls from my stash.
