what to do with...

its Carol here today and after reading some of the comments on a previous post I decided to share with you what I do with those pieces of paper in paperpads that aren't quite "my thing"...

Here I've used a piece of 6x6 paper that was green and white and a pattern that really wasn't me.... (I totally forgot to photograph it "raw" but if you look carefully you can see the green page with white design)

adding other products and using my tools to hand I turned it into:-

firstly I applied distress ink thro' a stencil...then using another stencil added white acryllic paint....using a pipette and spray ink - dribbled ink across the top of the page -  hold the page at a slant to create "runs" and puddles.  Using some rubber stamps I then randomly stamped onto the page and whilst still wet added some gold embossing powder, flicking off from the back to give an aged look when heat embossed....

so, what to do with this background page...

I cut the page to the size of my card blank and added pieces of tape, lace and ribbon and using various pens and paints have outlined the page and the other elements.

The face is a stamped image coloured in with water colour pencils.

Et voila! a card from totally "outgrown" items - mixing old with the new...

Just a reminder that we are holding an introduction to art journalling course on Saturday, 9th March, 10am to 4pm - we will be creating pieces along these lines:-

love this idea you use for turning horrible paper into something different.

What a great idea. I've got loads of bits of paper hanging around that aren't quite "me" - must try messing around with them ...
