Mintay Papers - Bon Voyage - Doha Days

Claire here today creating with the Bon Voyage collection from Mintay Papers.

I love scrapping my travels and this collection is just perfect for adventures great and small. When I saw it, I immediately fell in love with the map papers, and there are several to choose from in this collection. They show different parts of the world so you can completely tailor them to wherever your photos are based - home or away!

To start, I grabbed a piece of Kraft Cardstock and tore Paper 3 across the middle, adhering flat to my cardstock.

Next,  I backed my photos using the neutral card from the Matchmaker Pack, positioning these in the centre of my layout, slightly offsetting one against the other and raising on foam to give separation from the background paper.

Now, you may know I love a striped paper and find them hard to resist, so when you see Paper 2, it'll come as no surprise that I just had to use it!!  I cut a strip a few inches tall, cut it in half and cut fishtails into each end. I outlined the edges with black fineliner pen and slid these under each side of my photos, allowing those gorgeous stripes to provide an extra pop of colour and pattern.

Then came the embellishing! There are some fabulous travel icons in this range, so I used a mixture of florals paired with globes, cars, suitcases, planes, cameras and signs from the Paper Die Cuts to create fun clusters around my photos.

To soften the harsher lines created by the paper layers, I used a spare circle of cardstock as a guide to draw a circle with a light pencil line around the centre of my design, adding a dotted line in White Nuvo Drops to draw you eye into the middle of the layout. Love how this turned out. That extra pop of white adds a lovely bit of detail.

I used small foam alphas from my stash to add my title directly to my photos, before returning to the map paper to create extra tears and rips to mimic a used map. Once ethe edges were rolled back, I added Finnabair Art Stones and Mini Art Stones to add a desert effect to echo the photos (It was a hot one!)

Travel Junque- Photoplay

 Hi everyone!

I am so excited to be new to the Papermaze design team this month! As a relatively recent scrapbooker since 2019 my scrapbooking style seems to have settled into colourful layouts with a messy or grungy edge, but I still really enjoy to play with pretty pinks and fresh florals too when the mood strikes!

For my first month on the team, I have been using the Travel Junque collection by Photoplay . As my family and I tend to take holidays within the United Kingdom, the colours and images in this collection fit our UK holiday photos so well!

For my first layout I have made a feature of the cut apart tags in the Explore paper, adding eyelets and some twine for added texture.

As a continuation of the tag theme, I cut a large 6x8" photograph into four equal sized tags as a large feature across the bottom half of the page. I also added two smaller 2.5x3" photos  matted onto the tag cut-apart tags. Behind the photo I have tucked some of the tag ephemera fussy cut from the A side of the Roam paper. 

 

The alphas and phrases on the B side of the Roam paper from the collection lend themselves excellently to being cut apart and used as my layout title. Finally I have added some leaf charms and some of the phrases from the Element Stickers over the photo tags to add interest.

First Class Day - Simple Stories - Here + There Collection

Hello, it’s Rebecca back with you today sharing my second layout created with Simple Stories ‘Here + There’ collection. The photo I’m scrapping today is of my son on a heritage steam train and is the reason I chose to create with this collection this month! I thought the colours were perfect and I had my eye on that train die cut! You can find the collection here.

I began by cutting some strips from the patterned papers - one larger to anchor the page - and a couple of smaller. I cut fish tails into all the ends to turn them into banners and layered them on top of each other. 

As my son is facing slightly to the left, I decided to place my photo on the right hand side of the page so that he looks like he’s facing towards the centre of the layout. Behind it, I added two tags from the Tag Elements patterned paper. Using my crop-o-dile, I added metal eyelets to both tags. I always feel like I need to do something to tags - either add an eyelet or some thread. They just look unfinished to me if I leave them ‘naked’. 

I knew I wanted to add the train die cut from the Bits & Pieces pack but I initially struggled to find a place for it. After moving it around a bit, I settled for along the bottom of my photo. 

Using lots of florals from the Floral Bits & Pieces  pack, I created two clusters going diagonally through my photo. I layered them up further by I including some florals from the Cardstock Stickers . 

I really adored the luggage tag sticker and so really wanted to include it on this layout. I added it to the left of my photo, nestled in behind the train die cut. 

For my title, I used some alphabet stickers from my stash. I wanted to bring some of the mustard colour to the left of the page so these worked really well. 

I felt like the outer edge of the layout needed something to frame the page - so I cut out two small areas of the white cardstock, and backed it with patterned paper. It was really simple to do and really made a difference to the page. 

I finished the layout off with the addition of some sequins in three small clusters.

Memories - Simple Stories - Here + There Collection

Hello, it’s Rebecca with you today enjoying the bank holiday and creating with the new Simple Stories Here + There collection. I was initially on the fence about this collection - I adore the earthy colours in it - but it’s a travel themed collection - and I don’t really travel much since having my son! I decided I loved the colours enough that I wanted to have a bit of a play, and I’m so glad I did!! You can find the full collection in the shop here.

For my first layout, I’m making a non-travel themed page. It just goes to show how versatile this collection is! I begun by cutting a strip of patterned paper and tearing along the top and bottom at slight angles for a bit of texture. I distressed all the edges and placed it into the centre of a sheet of premium white cardstock. I took one of the cut apart cards from the 4x6 Elements Paper and cut it in half so that I could place a strip of striped paper peeking out either side. I added my photo to the centre of the page, raised up on foam to introduce some dimension. 

Using the Floral Bits & Pieces, I began to embellish the layout. I created two clusters of florals going diagonally through my photo. To these clusters, I added some of the Bits & Pieces  and Cardstock Stickers. I always like to adhere the stickers to white cardstock before using them so that I can move them around and change my mind without them sticking to other things on the layout. 

To the empty space above and below my photo, I added some of the sentiment stickers (also from the cardstock stickers sheet). I tried to pick these based on their colour, and what they said. 

I always adore the Tag patterned papers in Simple Stories collections and love that they are double sided… so much choice! I selected two based on their colour, and added one either side of my layout. Using my Crop-o-dile I punched metal eyelets through the tags and tied some embroidery thread though them to add some more texture to the layout. 

I finished off with a few sequins in coordinating colours, and placed them following the diagonal line of embellishments.

'Wander' by ScrappyAdam... Simple Stories 'Safe Travels' Collection

Happy Scrappy Saturday!

It has been a busy few weeks for me but I am so happy to be back on the Papermaze blog sharing a new layout using the new Simple Stories collection, Safe Travels. I absolutely love this collection - it is travel themed but it can be used for so much more especially with the travel restrictions of today. I loved my DT Pack and then bought the rest of the collection - like I always do!

I have used it to document a photo from a three week road trip across Europe we took in 2019. I have so many photos from this trip to document - I have so many photos to document! Do you scrap chronologically? Or are you more of a random scrapper like me? I scrap whatever photo I feel like depending on what I am working with! 

I took inspiration from Day 3 of Scrap Squad's '12 Days of Spring Scraplifts' over in the Scrap Squad Facebook group. I don't do scrap lifts all that often, even though I have a huge virtual pile on my phone and it was nice to have the starting inspiration for a change. I did change the orientation of my layout from the scraplift for Day 3. 

I took a sheet of White Bazzill as my background. I don't use white backgrounds all that much so that was a nice change.I started with two strips each of the papers Happy Travels, Weekend Vibes and Take Me Somewhere. I decided to tear these strips and had one large strip at the bottom and two smaller layered behind this and three smaller strips on the top. I did intentionally make it very textured with tearing and distressing the edges. 

I added my photo, slightly bigger than a 3x4" and used a Chipboard Frame to highlight the photo and layered a sticker to create a subtitle with the words already on the frame. 

To the top right, I added a cluster using the adhesive brads and enamel dots as well as a couple of stickers from the sticker book. 

I wanted to add more because there was a lot of white space left for me! If you've seen my layouts before then you know I don't do white space often at all! So I added a big foam sticker, some washi tape strips, brads and stickers as well as a rub on from my stash. 

That's pretty much it! Quite a simple page for me - with quite a bit of white space for me! Hope you have enjoyed it and I will hopefully be back with another Safe Travels project very soon!
