February Papermaze Kit - Part 2

Lynn here today, with two more layouts made with the February Papermaze Kit. With this beautiful collection I made two heritage layouts a few weeks ago. Here I have more, showing two generations of the same family. The first shows sisters Irene and Dorothy, and the second shows three sisters (the mother and aunts of the girls in the first layout). I came across these lovely photos of our family ancestors through Ancestry. I will add details of these ladies on my own blog (should you wish to read about them). 

Before looking at how the layouts were created, here is what you will find in the kit:

For this 1920's photo, I used the gutted frame of Notes And Things paper, created from making a previous layout. I cut the Forever paper to 10.5" x 10.5", and distressed the edges, before setting over the print frame. I folded over the top left corner of the Forever paper.

Using my Cricut I cut an 8.5" diameter clockface (with roman numerals), from some scrap cardstock. I treated this with copper embossing powder, for the hands I used thick black embossing powder. I cut a circle the same side from Kraft Bazzill, to back the clockface, then attached the hands with a large brad (also embossed black). I placed the clock face to the top right of the layout. 

The photo was attached to the bottom right of the layout, overlapping the clockface.  

With the Cricut I used an Art Deco font, in three layers, using three sheets of Bazzill from the kit (Mocha Divine, Apricot & Beeswax). I built the letters, then with 3D foam pads I arranged them around the clockface. 

I selected flowers and leaves from my stash to arrange in clusters on the page. 

I added the dated with some old typewriter key alphabet stickers from my stash.

Eaton Sisters - The lady in the centre is the mother of the two girls in the layout above. She has the same given names as one of the daughters. 

The background for this layout is the sheet of Starters Paper #5. I used some scraps of Notes And Things paper, to frame the photo. The photo was place centrally onto the paper.

With the Wild Flowers paper, I fussy cut all the flowers. Then I arranged them around the photo. Some flowers were glued to the page directly, and other flowers were raised with 3D foam pads. 

With the Sizzix Thinlits Tag Collection die set, I cut three small tags from Golden Rod Pattern & Solid Sheet. I inked the edges and wrote the name of each sister onto the individual tags. I tied a short piece of brown seam binding ribbon to the top of the tags. These were place among the flowers. 

With one of the 49 and Market Nostalgic Memories chipboard words from the kit, I added a phrase to the bottom right of the layout. I placed a couple of gold enamel dots over the holes at each end of this piece.

I placed the approximated date of the photo in the bottom left corner with some old wood effect Thicker alphabet stickers from my stash. Some old Basic Grey Alphabet stickers were used for the title, I layered two colours together.

Papermaze February Kit - Part 1

Lynn here today to introduce you to the romantic February Papermaze Kit. This beautiful collection is ideal for St. Valentine, Wedding and other romantic photos, but they are also perfect for heritage layouts. As the weather is cold and miserable, I have been working on my family tree, and making new links on Ancestry. I came across these lovely photos of our family ancestors. I will add details of these characters on my own blog (should you wish to read about them).

Laura Susannah - A recently discovered photo of a great grand aunt on my husband's side of the family. 

I gutted the Notes And Things paper, making a frame of 1"x12"x12", which I set aside for use on another layout. From the gutted centre I cut a 9" circle from the centre. Then I placed this onto the Fawn Bazzill and gently pencilled the circle onto the cardstock. Using a Tim Holtz Layering stencil (THS077 - Floral) and some Embossing Paste I created the flowery design so it would peep from the circle. I used Stampendous Frantage Shabby White Embossing Enamel over the paste and heat embossed it to fix it in place, making a raised sparkly design. 

I took the circle, cut earlier and punched holes with the smaller hole on the crop-a-dile, 1cm in from the outer edge, and 1 cm apart. Using some cream crochet cotton and a 3.5mm crochet hook I croched around the outer edge of the circle. I worked double crochet stitched through the holes all around the circle first, then my second round was 1 dc, 3tr, 1dc, into each dc created on the first round. The circle was placed onto the centre of the Fawn Bazzill.

I added the photo to the left side of the circle. With the Sizzix and a Tim Holtz Bigz XL die (Wonderland), and some scrap greyboard, I cut the letters for the title. These letters were embossed with Sizzix Caramel Toffy embossing powder. The letters were arranged inside the crochet edging. 

I used the 49 and Market Nostalgic Memories chipboard word from the kit along the base of the photo, I raised this up on 3D foam pads so it sat happily over the crochet. 

From the kit I used the assorted flowers and the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Woodlands floral bits. I trimmed the white halo's away from the butterflies and toadstools, as I felt they looked better this way for a heritage layout. The butterfly wings were raised up on 3D foam pads, while the bodies were glued in place. 

The Kiff Family c1905 - This photo was sent to me by a someone I have linked up with through Ancestry. It shows George and Irene Kiff with Charles, Leonard, Irene, Thomas and Dorothy.

I started making this layout with the Moment paper, I cut off the barcode strip and set it aside for later. I turned the paper so the flower borders ran down either side of the paper, rather than across the top and bottom. Then I cut a piece 5" x 12" from the Golden Rod Pattern & Solid Sheet paper. I glued this down the centre of the Moment paper, leaving the very edges unstuck.

I cut the 12" lace ribbon in half lengthwise, at tucked this under the edges of the Golden Rod Pattern & Solid Sheet paper. I then glued some cream velvet ricrac trim over the join. 

My photo was placed to the right side, again leaving room to tuck embellishments in later. I used the 49 and Market Colourswatch Tickets and some skeleton leaves down the sides of the photo.

I built up the floral areas by adding a selection of paper flowers and leaves, coiling the wires. I added a key embellishment to both areas, using the flower wires to hold them in place. 

Back to the barcode strip - I cut the two phrases apart, then I cut both of them into two lines. I distressed the edges, and added the phrases to the side of each cluster of flowers. They were raised up on 3D foam pads. 

I used some old domed resin stickers from my stash to add the date to the layout. The title was also made with some old stickers from my own collection.

Mintay Papers Lavender Farm - Beatie & Polly

Hello, Karen here again with another layout using the gorgeous Lavender Farm collection from Mintay Papers. Today I've a heritage layout to share. The collections from Mintay generally have a vintage, distressed feel to them and so are perfect for heritage layouts..... but can also be used for so many other themes.

I started by trimming roughly half an inch from two sides of paper #4 and then machine stitched this, with white thread, to a sheet of paper #3 leaving a narrow border round the edge. 

I then attached my sepia photo to the lower left quarter of the layout with some 3D foam underneath to add some dimension.

I embellished the layout with die cuts from the die cut pack and some purple paper flowers from my stash. 

I tucked some white cotton lace underneath the photo too. The lace adds some texture and also adds to the vintage feel of the layout.

Finally I die cut some title lettering from a scrap of purple cardstock and placed this at the top of the layout following the arc of the window printed on the paper.

49 & Market Vintage Artistry Hike More - A Moment in Time

Hello again! Karen here with a final layout to share using the 49 & Market Vintage Artistry Hike More collection. My two previous layouts have been nature themed but today's layout is a heritage style layout  using a photograph of my grandmother when she was a young woman.

I started with a sheet of olive green cardstock. I trimmed a quarter of an inch from each side of a sheet of the Bramble paper and then using a distressing tool I distressed the edges of the paper. The paper was  machine stitched on top of the olive cardstock with white thread. After stitching the paper I used my fingernails to lift the edges of the paper to give the background some more texture and dimension. 

I also machine stitched round the edges of my photo and a butterfly card from the pack of Ephemera Bits with the same white thread. Then, using a craft knife, I cut round the wings of each butterfly on the card and slipped my photograph underneath the wings before attaching the card and photograph to the the centre of the layout with some craft foam underneath.

3D foam squares were also placed underneath the butterfly's wings to keep them raised up.

The layout was embellished by tucking lots of  bits and pieces under the card and photograph. 

Using a honeycomb die I cut some pieces from kraft cardstock to add to the layout. 

A doilie and die cut leaf-flourish were added.

A kraft tag tied with natural twine was tucked behind the top of the photo.

At the bottom of the photo I added some cream cotton lace and a vintage button from my button tin.

Letters cut from more of the olive cardstock were used to create the title and the date and a few sequins finished off the layout.

I hope this layout shows the versatility of the Hike More collection and that it will inspire you to look again at your papers and how you can use them.
