Kaisercraft - Bombay Sunset & Sizzix Dies

Hello, It's Lynn here, on this beautiful, bright, Autumn morning from our holiday in Kendal.

A variation on a theme from me this time! I'm back with another Sizzix folder based on the same idea as before, but showing how you can change the theme to anything you want it to be. I have made this one to store my floral dies, and my other one was based on a masculine theme.

For today's project I used Kaisercraft's Bombay Sunset papers - with such pretty, bright colours.

Here are the dimensions for cutting the Chipboard.Front and back pieces (2 the same) - 14.5 cm x 17 cm
Spine - 4.5 cm x 17 cm
Small box front - 6cm x 14 cm
Small box back - 7 cm x 14 cm
Small box sides (2 the same - remember to flip one over so they are a mirror image of one another) - 4 cm wide, height of 6 cm at the front and 7 cm at the pack of piece (see photo)

Small box base - 4 cm x 14 cm

For further details to make the folder, please see the original post. This time I used white Duck Tape instead of black.

For the front cover I used a sheet of 'Sunset' and various dies. For the lettering I used scraps of paper from the collection with Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations Decorative Strip - Alphabetical and Typeset. The flowers are cut from white cardstock and inked with Distress Inks. The dies are Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations Thinlits Die Set - Wild Flowers.

For the inside of the folder I used 'Daybreak' and for the box I used 'Sari'.

the box was lines with the reverse side of 'Sunset'

As before the box inside which holds up to 7 Sizzix Thinlits Die Sets, is held in place with magnets, hidden under the decorative papers. The folder is held shut with magnets too.

I has fun making this folder with these beautiful papers.
Now to work out different measurements for my other dies!
Thanks for looking

Kaisercraft - Factory 42

Hi there - Lynn with you today, to show you what I made when I had the chance to play with a Kaisercraft paper pad from the new, Factory 42 line. It is an excellent collection for making cards and layouts for the special men and boys in your life.

I have many of my larger dies stored on magnetic sheets in plastic storage boxes, having been removed from their original packaging. However I feel the intricate sets of Sizzix Thinlits Alterations dies need a different method of storage. They have many small pieces and would easily become separated and possibly lost if removed from their packaging. The manufacturing packaging consists of strong plastic wallets, and I find it uesful to keep the dies with their images, showing what is inside the set. I was therefore trying to think of a way to store a group of these die sets together.

I
came up with this file which has a box inside and will hold up to seven sets of dies. It will hold my more masculine dies and I plan to make another in the same way for my floral dies using different papers.

Find this paper pad HERE
These paper pads are very versitile as you have two sheets of each design as well as die cuts and foiled papers. In fact the papers in these pads are 6 1/2" square, giving you a little more paper to play with, and thus I was able to make this project without having to join papers.

Back in May this year I made a mini album (cook book), and today's project uses some of the same principles, for joining the chipboard and attaching the magnets (so I won't go over all that again - I will simply add the link here). The chipboard you will need to cut for this project is listed below and shown in the photo.

Front and back pieces (2 the same) - 14.5 cm x 17 cm
Spine - 4.5 cm x 17 cm
Small box front - 6cm x 14 cm
Small box back - 7 cm x 14 cm
Small box sides (2 the same - remember to flip one over so they are a mirror image of one another) - 4 cm wide, height of 6 cm at the front and 7 cm at the pack of piece (see photo)

Small box base - 4 cm x 14 cm

Build the small box and the folder using black duck tape as explained here. The duck tape makes the joints strong and flexible, while giving the edges some water resistance too.

Attach the magnets at this point so they are hidden under the decorative paper see next two photos for positions. For technique used to attach magnets, please see here

The first photo shows position of 4 pairs of magnets to attach back of small box to inside back of folder...

... the second photo shows position of another 2 pairs of magnets to close the folder (left of inside front of folder to right front of small box).

Now for the fun part - decorating the box!

I selected the papers from the pad, then cut them so the measurements were about 0.5 cm smaller than the chipboard. The edges were inked with Distress Inks (weathered wood and gathered twigs).

Here is the inside of the folder ...

... and the outside - for this I used the foiled papers.

For the small box I covered all four sides with the cog paper:

Lastly I used black Bazzill cardstock and papers from the pad, together with several dies to add some embellishments and lettering to the outside of the folder.
I used Thinlits Die Set Gearhead, Bigz Die Pipeline, Sizzlits Decorative Strips - Wanted Alphabet and Typeset Alphabet. I embossed the cogs with several different metalic coloured embossing powders. A little Glossy Accents was added to the water drips.

Now to make the next one - I think they should look good on the shelf in the craft room!
Thanks for looking.

Bo Bunny - Kiss The Cook (Mini Album)

Hello - Lynn here today - back with more of the Bo Bunny 'Kiss The Cook' papers. The collection inspired me to make a cookery book for all my tried and tested cake recipes. I have been looking at 'You Tube' videos for creating albums. I love the idea of paper engineering to make something that is practical and appealing.

I added a few sheets of 'Kiss The Cook' paper to those I had left over from the layouts I made earlier in the month, I also had some Combo Stickers left and added a pack of Noteworthy Die Cuts
The album required some mat board, Black Bazzill Cardstock, magnets, Golden Gel Medium (Matte), Creative Expression Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic Glue and Black Duck Tape.
For the tabs I used Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations Bigz Die - Tiny Tags and Tabs.

I took much inspiration from the work of Zannerol and Katy Orta King on You Tube, before setting about making my version. Here is a bit of a pictorial step-by-step, including the measurements.

Cut Mat Board with a craft knife - 2 pieces for the back and front of the album (6.75" x 9.5") & 1 piece for the spine (1.5" x 9.5").

Using Duct Tape, this is strong and will also provide a water resistant finish - useful in a kitchen! For the inside of the album, butt the front and back to the spine and tape together.

Tape all around the edges to give a neat, protective finish. Cut notches where the folds show on the outside to give flexibility. Outside shown above and inside shown below.

Close the album so the spine is stretched before adding tape.

Tape the outer spine, you can see a book placed inside the album at this point to hold the spine & covers in position.

Depending on the number of pages you want in you book cut the cardstock - To make 9 pages (total of 18 pockets). Cut 9 file pieces 8" x 6" and score at 0.5" and 4.5". Cut 1 end piece 4.5" x 6" and score at 0.5".

Stick the 0.5" tabs to the next file until they are all joined and add the end piece, concertina style - see above and below.

Mark positions for the tiny magnets and stick into place inside each file. These will be covered by the decorative papers later.

With the Sizzix die cut tabs from scraps of black cardstock left over from files. Add small pieces of white card inside and glue into place at the top of each file. Front shown above and reverse shown below.

This last flap will be used to secure the files into place at the bottom of the inside cover, The back pocket will cover this join and help keep it secure.

To decorate, cut papers to fit the back, front and spine and arrange pieces from the pack of die cuts, stickers and also images cut from the papers. Stick images in place with Gel Medium, and seal by painting this over the images. Again this will help make the album water resistant for use when cooking. Allow time for this to dry before attaching to album.

Back Cover

Add some detail with a black and white waterproof markers.

Decorate the inside by making pockets using more cardstock and decorative papers. Each file can be flipped down to reveal the recipe you need. The magnets hold the others out of the way.

Cut smaller pieces of patterned papers to cover the files. These can then be decorated with photos, images and recipes.

Print or write out general information sheets like this to store in the pockets.
The photo above shows the reverse side of the files - yet to be decorated. The whole file system is held in place with more magnets.

This is a work in progress, and I will add to the album as I discover new favorite cake recipes. I have already cut enough pieces of paper to cover the rest of the files. and I have an envelope of die cuts, stickers, items I have cut out, photos and recipes ready to continue.

I hope this has inspired you to have a go at making your own album, for photos, recipes, journalling or another purpose.

Thanks for looking.
