Got To Love A Travel Day - Pocket & A Flip Page

 It's the start of a new journal and it's our travel day.

We went to Walt Disneyworld in January.

Today I'm having fun documenting the day we traveled.

 I picked out this collection from Doodlebug Designs. Lots of Love.

The colours caught my eye and although it's a Valentines collection it was so perfect for this page too.

I love a page where you can open things and pull things out. I wanted to create a pocket on the right to hold a couple of photos.  

So this became this.

I added some of the patterned papers on the back of the photos. I added a tab sticker from the 12x12 sticker sheet.

Top Tip, if you have a sticker like this that hangs over with sticky bit exposed, wipe some flour or talc on the back to remove the sticky.

On the other side I wanted to make a page that flips out.

I took a piece from the paper with all the strips and attached it at the bottom with clear tape. When it's up like this it also becomes another pocket.

I used a plane clip to hold it up.

But when it's opened out it looks like this.

I made another tag for a photo with journaling on the bag to live in this new pocket.

The 'mile high tea' and the balloon I cut from the paper placemat that was on the plane that I took : )

I love doing things like that.

I love the alphabet stickers from DoodleBug Designs. They come in a few colours here.

I love how this page came together.

I love the colours and the layer. It's a great start to this journal.

Bloom - Simple Stories - Simple Vintage Indigo Garden collection

Hello, Rebecca with you today sharing my second layout for the month created with the beautiful Simple Vintage Indigo Garden collection from Simple Stories. You can find the collection in the store here.

I’m really loving the ‘minimalistic’ look at the moment so I’ve created a layout with plenty of white space. I find that when I overload a page and add too much to it, I don’t notice the finer details so much and miss things when glancing back at the page. Having plenty of white space gives your eye somewhere to rest so that you can take in all the details of the page. 

For this layout, i started with a 5x7 inch piece of the Beautiful Heart patterned paper. I tore the top and bottom of the paper to add some texture and placed it vertically in the centre of my page. I wanted a darker patterned paper underneath for contrast and noticed the reverse of this paper worked perfectly! Rather than cutting a fresh piece big enough to sit underneath, I was able to use the two sections I’d torn off. I placed one either side with the straight edge showing - using the gingham pattern to help me line the two pieces up. I then taped them in place on the back. 

I added a layer of white card behind my photo to help give it some separation from the patterned papers, and then mounted the whole thing using the blue bazzill cardstock from the 12x12 Basics Pack. I placed my photo central on the page with a layer of foam behind it to create dimension and to give me space to tuck my embellishments behind. 

Using the floral die cuts from the Floral Bits & Pieces  pack, I created two clusters going diagonally through my photo. I turned the edges of the florals up to add a bit of interest and create more dimension. 

For my title, I’ve used one of the Foam Stickers , and placed it underneath my photo, off centre so that there was room for the florals. These foam stickers are one of my favourite products in simple stories collections. They are so easy to use and are always designed using really nice fonts. 

I introduced some of the die cuts from the Bits & Pieces pack, placing one either side of my photo and placed some butterflies on the page too. As with all my layouts, I only ever apply glue to the bodies of butterflies, and leave the wings flapping free. I love the effect this gives - as if the butterflies have flown in and landed on my layout. 

I had an open space above my photo that was bugging me. It took me a while to decide what to place there, but after a bit of faffing I decided on a chipboard piece from the Decorative Brads and a heart sticker from the Combo Stickers sheet. 

I finished the layout off with some nuvo crystal drops either side of the page in rhubarb crumble and midnight blue.

Pebbles ~ Kid at Heart 🧡 #4

Hi all, hoping you are all well and enjoying the Spring sunshine!  

I’m still creating with Pebbles Kid at Heart as I’ve had so much fun with it! But I’m nearing the end of my supplies now, so this layout is very much created by using up some scraps. So I went with a heart’s background... 

To create this layout I began with a sheet of Bazzill white cardstock. I then created a heart template using some scrap cardstock. I then used this to create 8 hearts using various patterned papers. I also created a smaller template to cut out some smaller hearts to layer on top of the larger ones. I hand stitched around the two central hearts using coordinating threads. 

I mounted my photograph onto Bazzill whirlpool and the  ‘Happy Day’ patterned paper. 

I added in a couple of pieces from the phrase ephemera pack and fussy cut some florals from the ‘Scatter Happiness’  patterned paper.

I wanted to add in a few sparkly details, so I dotted some Nuvo drops around the central hearts and added some Pinkfresh Studio Jewels in clusters.

Back to Nature ..... G45 Woodland Friends

 It's Anita here with you today and I would like to share a project I have just made after my scrapping mojo left the building once again!

I have some lovely G45 Woodland Friends papers and bits left in my DT kit from last month and this photo of myself, my Mum and Sister on a recent visit to our local reservoir was looking to be used, so I paired them together.

 I was having a sort out of cupboards and drawers at home and found a broken clock that I should have thrown away ages ago really. I am glad I didn't now as it's made quite a nice photo frame instead and with a nice cream base made it easy to work on straight away.

I started by dabbing on some alcohol inks using a small piece of felt and an old wooden rubber stamp handle with a bit of velcro on to grip the felt. The ink was a colour called Expresso and it was actually really nice to use some old stash that has been rattling round in my craft room for ages. After the ink I also dabbed some ivory acrylic paint randomly to help blend the ink. 

The clock face has been covered with a circle cut from a sheet of Woodland Friends on the lovely reverse side, which had a very nice plaid pattern and I then matted the photo on a piece of Dark Green cardstock. Using a Martha Stewart punch and some more Dark Green card I also punched out some little leaf sprays to scatter about later on.

This range of papers have some fabulous images of various woodland animals across them and I decided to theme this project with the various squirrels.

So using a sheet of  Be Curious I set about fussy cutting lots of squirrels, branches, a bird and a bird with its nest to decorate around the clock face ( this felt like it took forever!!)

Once I had cut several out I placed them round the clock face and stuck them down when I was happy with the positioning. A good old rummage in my flower basket turned up some mulberry paper leaves and tiny brown roses, so I scattered these randomly around the edges.... inbetween the branches and the squirrels.

A couple of stickers from the Woodland Friends Sticker sheet were added to just finish the project up and that was it! It was actually really nice trying something different for a change and the amazing papers that G45 produce have so much detail on them, they are really versatile.

Doodlebug Design - Great Outdoors - The Great Outdoors

Hi everyone,

I'm back today sharing my second layout with the Doodlebug Design Great Outdoors collection, which you can find in the store here.

This layout is a very special one for me, as it's one of my all time favourite photographs of Balli - so happy and full of the joys of spring.

I started the layout with a piece of Premium White Cardstock and coated it in clear gesso. Once the gesso was dry, I pulled out my Shimmerz Vibez sprays.  I mixed a few different colours to create the background; Snow Way Man, Blue Jeans, Frogget me Not, and Velveteen Green. Once that had dried, I took some blue and green distress oxide in similar shades, and brushed it through a small polka dot stencil for a bit of extra pattern.

I pulled out the patterned papers and drew some chevrons. I created these on my Cricut, but you could easily hand draw one to use as a template on some scrap cardstock.

I chose four papers; Wild Things, Camp Spots, Happy Camper, and Favourite Flannel. I thought about stitching round them for extra texture, but decided that a quick outline in a black Sharpie was sufficient to help them pop off the page, along with some foam pads.

Next, I matted my photo using the same four papers, sizing it at about 2.5" to fit between the chevrons.

I layered it on top of a tag from the awesome Tag Along paper (a must have!) and added some ephemera. The speech bubble with the heart is from the Odds & Ends Chit Chat pack, and the branch is from the Odds & Ends Friendly Forest pack.

I created a leaf cluster to the bottom left of my photo to balance the tag using the Odds & Ends Friendly Forest pack, curling the leaves for extra dimension.

I also created a second cluster directly above, taking trees from the same pack. again folding and curling for extra dimension.

For my title, I picked some phrases and banners from the Odds & Ends Chit Chat pack and positioned these underneath my photo in a cascading design. I really love how these have turned out, they are so impactful.

As a finishing touch, I took some stars from this pack and scattered them across the page, added a few clusters of Black Nuvo Drops and finally drew a doodled border to bring it all together.

Photoplay Notting Hill - Reading with Nana

Hello, Karen here. Today I'm sharing another scrapbook layout using the fabulous Notting Hill collection from Photoplay.

The starting point for this layout was a sketch from a few years ago posted on Susan Stringfellow's Sketch Savvy blog. I like this sketch because it includes multiple photos of various sizes.

First I took a sheet of white Bazzill Cardstock, trimmed about 1cm off of two sides and matted this onto a sheet of red Bazzill Cardstock.

Then I layered pieces of the Currently Reading and Books I Love papers onto the white background.

Three tags were made using the Book Nerd Paper and these were also added to the layout. Reinforcing rings made from some of the blue Books I Love paper and bows of white twine were added to the tag tops.

My three photos were then matted on white cardstock and placed on top of the papers and tags.

Stickers from the sticker sheet were used as embelishments.

I dug into my stash and used some very old Lime Green chipboard letters and some Navy Blue Pink Paislee Foam Thickers to create a title near the bottom of the layout. When creating a title I like to nestle this into other elements and was able to do that with the words 'with Nana' nestling between the letter G of the word 'Reading' and one of the tags.

Some of the ephemera die cuts were added to the layout too.

Finally the date was added to the layout using more of the foam Thickers and everything was outlined with a black Uni Ball Signo pen.

March Papermaze Kit - Part 1

Extra Bazzill Basics Pack - Coral Cream, CS White, Capers & Blackberry Swirl


Janet - This photo from the 1950's is another for the family history album.

I used the Blackberry Swirl Bazzill as a background for this layout, flicking some Peeled Paint and Iced Spruce Distress Oxide Spray onto the surface. 

An 11cm strip was torn from the Carta Bella - Gather At Home - Fresh Floral, was placed down the centre of the card, with the floral side up. Then I tore two more strips from the same paper, just 2.5cm wide and these were flipped to the green check side and placed either side of the floral band. I cut one of the heart doilies in half and tucked each piece either side of the layout.

I picked out some Distress Oxide Inks in colours to match the flowers and leaves on the paper, and then with water colour paper, I placed colour and water to the craft mat to allow me to build up colour in layers onto the papers. I created several small sheets of peachy pink and blue /green colour, with water marks and flicked colourful stains. Once I was happy with the colours, and they were fully dry, I selected the dies I wanted to use, cut the layers and built my blooms and foliage. (I used Tim Holtz, Sizzix, Thinlits sets - Brushstroke Flowers #1 and Bloom Colorize.)

The photo was placed to the right for the central band and then the flowers were arranged in three clusters. Some pieces were raised with 3D foam tape, creating different levels.

 

I cut my title on my Cricut using scraps of the Distress Oxide Inked paper.

 

Finally I scattered some grey pearls over the black cardstock areas of the page.

Every Picture Tells A Story - Someone caught me on camera, photographing Lacock Abbey.

I started with the White Bazzill from the kit as a base this time. With Distress Texture Paste and a Vicki Boutin stencil from the Bountiful Mixed Media set, I created some textured circles on the layout. Then I added colour with Blackcurrant and Royal Blood Infusions from Paper Artsy - lightly shaking the crystals onto the page, before adding a little water and allowing the magic to happen!

I trimmed my photo and then two pieces of Vicki Boutin - Fernwood - Climbing Vines paper cut to the same size. I arranged the three items on the page, showing both sides of the paper with the photo on top. 

 

I cut the 'Every Picture Tells A Story' cutfile from the Rain Bazzill, then backed the open letters with more of the Climbing Vines paper. This was arranged under the photo. 

From the Vicki Boutin - Fernwood - Focused I trimmed some of the info. strip off the bottom and placed this to the left of the photo, I added a length of acetate Filmstrip Ribbon from Idea-ology.

I used some American Craft Thickers to add the word 'Click!' over a punched label, also to the left of the photo. Then I fussy cut two camera images from the Focused paper, and added these either side of the cutfile.
 

Finally I scattered the Pinkfresh Studio Jewel Essentials across the page.
