Uniquely Creative - Ultraviolet Delight - Sutton Hoo

Hello, Karen here! Today I’m sharing a new layout using the stunning Ultraviolet Delight collection from Uniquely Creative.

I have a little confession to make - purple isn't usually my "go-to" colour for scrapbooking. In fact, I’ve spent years reaching for almost any other colour first. The last tine I scrapbooked with a predominantly purple collection was probably about 4 years ago 😲!  I can’t quite put my finger on why I steered clear of it for so long, but this collection has  changed my mind. and I'm loving creating with these shades.

I started with a sheet of 12x12 white cardstock. I trimmed it down slightly and matted it onto a deep purple sheet to create a narrow border. For some extra dimension I used my sewing machine to sew a white straight stitch around the entire edge.

For the background, I decided to play with some mixed media. I started by brayering on some Milled Lavender Distress Ink. Once dry, I added some stencilling on top with a darker purple ink and also splattered some ink. A lot of this got covered up later but it does peep out from behind the other elements and adds a bit of extra interest to the layout.

In the centre of the layout, I layered three overlapping strips of patterned paperSimple Life, Very Violet, and Pretty Purples. Before gluing my strips down, I ran one through my printer so my journaling would sit at the bottom. I stitched around the edges of each strip and distressed the paper with my fingernails.

I then matted two photos with white cardstock and popped them on top.

I tucked some Vellum Creative Cuts under the photos. I decided to leave the backing paper on the pieces. This makes them more opaque so they don't get lost against the background.

I fussy cut some tabs from the Living Life's Moments paper and added these too.

I scattered die-cut white butterflies in three spots to draw the eye across the page. By gluing only the bodies, I gave the wings some lift, adding a bit more dimension to the design.

I die-cut the date and place name from purple cardstock to nestle near the photos.

I finished everything off with a few tiny, pink, flat-back gems for a bit of sparkle.

I hope you like this layout and I'll be back again soon with another layout to share.

Take Care
