Mintay Papers Lavender Farm - Beatie & Polly

Hello, Karen here again with another layout using the gorgeous Lavender Farm collection from Mintay Papers. Today I've a heritage layout to share. The collections from Mintay generally have a vintage, distressed feel to them and so are perfect for heritage layouts..... but can also be used for so many other themes.

I started by trimming roughly half an inch from two sides of paper #4 and then machine stitched this, with white thread, to a sheet of paper #3 leaving a narrow border round the edge. 

I then attached my sepia photo to the lower left quarter of the layout with some 3D foam underneath to add some dimension.

I embellished the layout with die cuts from the die cut pack and some purple paper flowers from my stash. 

I tucked some white cotton lace underneath the photo too. The lace adds some texture and also adds to the vintage feel of the layout.

Finally I die cut some title lettering from a scrap of purple cardstock and placed this at the top of the layout following the arc of the window printed on the paper.

49 & Market Vintage Artistry Hike More - A Moment in Time

Hello again! Karen here with a final layout to share using the 49 & Market Vintage Artistry Hike More collection. My two previous layouts have been nature themed but today's layout is a heritage style layout  using a photograph of my grandmother when she was a young woman.

I started with a sheet of olive green cardstock. I trimmed a quarter of an inch from each side of a sheet of the Bramble paper and then using a distressing tool I distressed the edges of the paper. The paper was  machine stitched on top of the olive cardstock with white thread. After stitching the paper I used my fingernails to lift the edges of the paper to give the background some more texture and dimension. 

I also machine stitched round the edges of my photo and a butterfly card from the pack of Ephemera Bits with the same white thread. Then, using a craft knife, I cut round the wings of each butterfly on the card and slipped my photograph underneath the wings before attaching the card and photograph to the the centre of the layout with some craft foam underneath.

3D foam squares were also placed underneath the butterfly's wings to keep them raised up.

The layout was embellished by tucking lots of  bits and pieces under the card and photograph. 

Using a honeycomb die I cut some pieces from kraft cardstock to add to the layout. 

A doilie and die cut leaf-flourish were added.

A kraft tag tied with natural twine was tucked behind the top of the photo.

At the bottom of the photo I added some cream cotton lace and a vintage button from my button tin.

Letters cut from more of the olive cardstock were used to create the title and the date and a few sequins finished off the layout.

I hope this layout shows the versatility of the Hike More collection and that it will inspire you to look again at your papers and how you can use them.

Carta Bella - Old World Travel

Hello, Lynn here with you today sharing two layouts.

I love the texture and the heavier weight of the Carta Bella papers. This Old World Travel collection is no exception and has a range of colours and elements which are ideal for masculine and travel layouts and cards. I have used this collection to create a pair of heritage layouts about my great grandfather Frederick Henry Holder all about his work with the Railway Service.

Frederick (front row, centre) worked for the railway for a total of 49 years, ending his working life in December 1927 as Foreman Porter at Bickley Station, near Bromley. He came here from Cannon Street where he had previously worked for five years.

To create the layout I used 12" x 12" sheet of Bazzill in 'Lagoon' for the base, this was gutted to make a 1" frame. I covered this with a sheet of 'Globes' paper cut to 11.75" x 11.75", also gutted to make a 1" frame. In turn I layered this up with a sheet of 'Stonehenge' Bazzill 10.25" x 10.25".

As always I inked the edges of all paper, cardstock, die cuts and stickers with Distress Inks.

I cut a thin strip 1/8" of an inch wide from 'Border Strips' to result in a strip with bands of different prints on it. This was divided into two pieces about 5" and 6" long, they were added horizontally to the top right and bottom left of the page. Then I machine stitched around the outer edge of the Stonehenge cardstock with a brown thread.

My photo was mounted onto a postcard piece cut from 'Dear To Me' although you can't see the post card details on the paper, I selected it for the aged appearance as this was a ideal effect for the old photo. This was then mounted onto a piece of 'Thunder' Bazzill.

I glued the photo into position on the page and added a tab from the 'Ephemera' pack of die cut images. I used three of the banner flags from this pack and overlapped them horizontally near the top left corner of the page, they are held down with a row of machine stitches.

I used more images from the Ephemera pack and others from the 'Element Sticker' sheet. The two large tags were stickers mounted onto Thunder cardstock. I added an 'Enamel Dot' to the hole on each tag.

Under the photo I added a strip of paper cut from the Border Strips sheet, selecting the area with trains (but there are also planes, balloons, bicycles, cameras, ships and other patterns). Below this I arranged a train and the 'arrive' and 'depart' stickers along with a few small circular die cuts.

On the right of the page I used three Bo Bunny Soirée Brads left over from a previous design team project, one at the top and two off-set near the bottom. I wound some hemp cord between the brads.
I stuck some more die cut flags from the cords, cutting a few extra from the 'Border Strips' paper.

I added a few random 'Enamel Dots' in the top right and bottom left of the page.

My Title and the date were created with 'Engraver' Alphabet Stickers by Prima, which I have had in my stash for a long time!

My second page used many of the same papers and elements -

I used Bazzill in Truffel for the base, and papers from Old World Travel collection - World Traveller, Post Cards, Border Strips and Dear To Me papers, some to make large mats behind the photo and others for strips along the bottom.
The Ephemera pack, Element Sticker sheet and Enamel Dots were all used again, along with Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks for inking the edges.
I went back to last months project left overs again and picked some of the Bo Bunny Soirée Buttons
The title was created with more letters from the 'Engraver' Alphabet Stickers by Prima
Hemp Cord was used to tie through the larger button.

In addition I used Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Collection rubber stamps - Wildflowers with Versafine Black onyx pigment ink pad to stamp a row of wildflowers along the width of the page,
