Sizzix - Eileen Hull Collection - Colour Wheel, Swatch Cards and Rainbow Wheels

I recently purchased a set of Sizzix products designed by Elaine Hull from Papermaze. They included: A5 Clear Stamps Set 24PK - Swatch Cards, Thinlits 9PK Die Set - Rainbow Wheels and Layered Stencils 3PK - Colour Wheel. This collection together with my Distress Inks gave me a variety of possibilities. There are plenty of ideas on the Sizzix web site including links to some You Tube videos. 

Here is a selection of things I made using these new tools:



First of all I made a layout, based on an idea by Jess Jones of Sizzix and changed to meet my plans. 



I cut some scrap paper down to 11" x 11" and placed it in the centre of the 12" x 12" Smooth White Bazzill, I had selected for the layout. I used the smaller piece as a mask, and with a blending tool I inked Distress Inks around the edge of the layout in a rainbow sequence. I removed the mask and flicked some of the colours over the page.  

I stamped the above image onto watercolour paper, and  cut it out with the largest circle die. Then I used Distress Inks, watered down on the craft mat and painted the segments. 

With the stencils I created the colour wheel above onto watercolour paper, then covered it by cutting the overlay from white cardstock and sticking it in place over the top. I trimmed the stencilled wheel from under the die. I stamped the small wheel with 12 sections (also watercolour paper), and cut it out with the smallest circle die. I painted each section with more Distress Inks.  I cut three silver arrows using the dies, and attached them to the colour wheel centres, with small brads. 

I stamped the swatch card onto watercolour paper, and painted each panel as before, I stamped the 'colour swatch' phrase into place. I cut the card out with scissors. I also stamped three paintbrushes, painted them and cut them out. 

With a set of alphabet dies I cut my title from more watercolour paper, and painted each letter with a different colour of Distress Ink. All the elements and the photo were arranged onto the page and stuck in place. I added the date with some Doodlebug Designs Rubons. 

Next, I made a set of three Birthday cards using similar techniques to the layout, various card blanks and some scrap patterned papers. 

I decided as the small colour wheel has sixteen little pallets and the Distress Ink and Distress Watercolour Pencil tins each hold the same number of inks or pencils, that I would use the stamps and dies to organise and label my tins.

The pencil tins already have an acetate sheet to protect them, so I attached the colour wheels to this, so it shows through the lid. I wrote the initials of each colour over the inked colour. For the Distress Inks, I cut a piece of acetate to fit over the inks, and rounded the corners with a punch. I used this to attach the colour wheels.

May Papermaze Kit - Part 2

Bazzill Basics Cardstock:

Water Fun - My three children enjoyed playing with the hose, water and brushes on the patio one sunny day. One fun way of getting the patio cleaned!

I cut the Lily Pond Bazzill to measure 11.5" x 11.5", then stencilled a hexagon pattern onto the card in a circular shape, so it shows around the tag circle when finished. I used Distress Oxide Inks in Fossilized Amber and Mowed Lawn. The stencil I chose is a Tim Holtz Layering Stencil - THS 166 Brush Hex.

I cut a gingham trim for two sides of the layout, from a sheet of Simple Stories Vintage Essentials Colour Palate - Yellow Collage from my stash. This was attached to make the finished page 12" x 12".

With the Yellow & Green Tags from the kit, I cut apart all the tags. I cut the tags down to 3" deep, and saved the off cuts for later.  I punched holes in the top of each tag, then threaded a large brad through each one. I inked the edges of the tags.

Then I arranged the tags into a circle around and under the doily. I placed a white card circle between the doily and the tags, to prevent the print showing through the doily. 

My photo was arranged just below the centre of the doily, leaving space for the title. I created my title and date using Thickers - Cecily glitter letter stickers from my stash.

Using some of the tag offcuts, I trimmed them and added them to the layout, one top left with a butterfly and other details. The second tag was made from an offcut of green gingham for the bottom right, I added my journalling to this piece.

Welly Weather - I think it's fair to say April 2024 was extremely wet! This layout shows a family outing to Sharnfold Farm. Scarlett certainly needed those wellies to see the ducks - mud everywhere!



I gutted the Pretty Plaid paper to create a 2" frame, then I trimmed the White Bazzill, to measure 9.5" x 9.5". I mounted this onto romance Bazzill, just 0.5" bigger than the white (I also gutted this cardstock).

Before sticking the white card in place, I used Distress Watercolour Pencils to draw some raindrops over the page, then I flicked coloured water created with the pencils, over the page. 

I cut the 'Welly Weather' Peartree Cutfile from the B side of the Pretty Plaid paper; I backed the letters with more of the Romance Bazzill. The wellies were backed with white car, which I had coloured with the watercolour pencils and blended with water, to match Scarlett's wellies in the photo. I placed the photos onto the centre of the layout and the finished cutfile over lapping the bottom of the photos. I added journalling under the title.

Finally, I placed some pearls and gems over the background.

April Papermaze Kit - Part 1

Lynn here with the pretty Papermaze kit for April. There is a lovely range of colours, purples, pinks, greens and blues in this month's selection. I have been experimenting with Distress Watercolour Pencils and Distress Oxide Inks.

On my most recent visit to Papermaze, I treated myself to a tin of Distress Watercolour Pencils (set 2). I was keen to try these out, so I selected the colours, I felt complimented the papers in this kit - Mermaid Lagoon, Prize Ribbon, Kitsch Flamingo, Seedless Preserve and Iced Spruce. I scribbled some rays radiating from the centre of the sheet of Coconut Swirl Bazzill, Mixing two or three colours in each ray. Then I took a water brush and ran it along the length of the rays, and the colours blended beautifully. Once dry I trimmed this cardstock to measure 11" x 11".

I cut nine wedge shaped pieces from 'Petals' and 'Floral' papers. I distressed all the edges, and inked them with Black Soot Distress Ink. These were attached, over the rays, radiating out from the centre. With black thread and the sewing machine, I stitched around the outside of the cardstock. Then I stitched along the centre of each of the wedge shaped pieces. I used a combination of zig-zag and straight stitches. 

The white cardstock was mounted over the Juneberry Bazzill from the kit, this was gutted first. I placed my photo into the centre of the photo. With a set of Memory Box feather dies, I cut six feathers from scraps of papers already used. I inked the edges with more Black Soot. The feathers were scattered around the photo, using 3D foam pads.

Using my Cricut and a scrap of the Juneberry Bazzill I created my title, and stuck this to the bottom right of the photo. Then I added journalling with a black marker pen.

Finally, I added the pearls from the kit, in clusters of three, all over the page.

This layout uses a combination of cutfiles and Distress Oxide Inks. First, I cut the 'Filmstrips Background' Peartree Cutfile from some scrap cardstock. This was placed onto a sheet of smooth white cardstock, to be used as a stencil.

With a combination of Distress Oxide Inks (Villainous Potion, Shaded Lilac, Salvaged Patina and Salvaged Patina), I worked the ink over the stencil with a blending tool. Once the stencil was removed, I spritzed a little water over the page.

My photos were mounted onto white card and placed in the centre of the page. Then I cut the 'Caught On Film' Peartree Cutfile using the Jade Bazzill. I backed the cutfile with one tiny image, and white card. I wrote my journalling onto the card with a black marker pen. The date was created with Doodlebug Designs Alphabet Soup puffy stickers in Swimming Pool.

I added the three wooden butterflies from the kit, adding some DMC embroidery thread through the holes and tying it to create antenna. I also place the Rosie's Studio flower ephemera around the photos using some 3D foam pads. I punched some leaves using more of the scrap papers and tucked these around the flowers.

I finished off with some Nuvo Glitter Drops to highlight the leaves and flowers. Dots of Nuvo Crystal Drops were added to the background of the layout.
