May Papermaze Kit - Part 1

Hello, It's Lynn here today with the May Papermaze kit (a little later than usual due to holidays). The kit this month is full of brightly coloured patterned papers and cardstock - great fun! I have used mine to make four layouts of my children's activities back in the 1990's. The photo below shows the first two of these layouts.

Before looking at how the layouts were made, here is what you will find in the kit.

Crazy Cozy Coupe - The children on their 3rd birthday, with the gift of a Little Tikes Cosy Coupe. 

For this layout I chose the Starters Paper #2, and keeping the barcode strip at the bottom of the page, I trimmed the same side strip from the top of the paper instead - so I still have a 12" x 12" piece of paper.

I printed five small photos of the event, and arranged these across the base of the page - leaving room to tuck items under the photos in places. I purchased an extra sheet of paper from the same collection - Starters Paper #8, this one is made up of 24 colourful tags, I cut out nine tags in colours to match the paint strips on the background paper. I inked the edges in Black Soot Distress Ink, and added a Pebbles - Sun & Fun puffy dot to each tag (from the kit).

The tags were arranged across the layout above the photos, in the same colour order as the paper beneath. I added journalling, the Vicki Bouton Bold & Bright puffy stickers, and Rosie's Studio – Jubilee die cut sentiments (both included in the kit). 

With my much loved, Spellbinders Dies Say Cheese Classic Mouse - Classic Mouse Alphabet set, I cut the title and the #3 from Raven Bazzill, and some scraps of glossy photo paper. These were layered up to make shiny letters with black shadows. Finally, I outlined the letters, tags and stickers with a black marker pen.

I built the background of this layout, using Bazzill Basics Cardstock in Raven and Bazzill White. I gutted the white so I had a 1" deep 12"x 12" frame and a piece 10" x 10", I trimmed the black to 11" x 11" and gutted it to make another 1" frame. These were then built up to create the background as seen in the photos. 

I mounted two landscape photos 4.5" x 3.5" onto a piece of white card, trimmed to make a very narrow border. This was then mounted onto the Ocean Oasis Bazzill, and then again onto a piece of  The Details paper. This was placed to the left side of the layout.

I used the Starters Paper #9 in several different ways, first of all I cut eight banners from the rays of colours. These were roughly 3.5" long and as wide as printed. I inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink and arranged them in rainbow colour order to the right side of the photos. 

The other way I used the paper, was to stamp on, to make the colour palates and brushes etc. 
I used Clear Stamps by Eileen Hull Swatch Cards and stamped the images on the white grid part of the paper. I cut these out and then stamped onto the coloured part of the paper to produce the paint colours. These were cut out and placed over the corresponding areas on the swatch cards. I also stamped the brush tips onto the coloured areas, and added them to the brushes. 

I used some of the washi tape from the kit and chose the word ' Creativity' and ran this between the photos and the coloured banners. Then I arranged all the stamped images I made. 

Finally, I used scraps of  Raven Bazzill, and die cut letters and numbers for the date and title. These were positioned over the coloured banners.

August Papermaze Kit - Part 1

Lynn here today with the first of my layouts made using the August Papermaze Kit. This kit is full of bright and colourful scrapbook papers, embellishments and cardstock. Ideal for summer and seaside layouts. The first two layouts feature lots of doodling.

Sandy Toes + Salty Kisses - My girls on the beach at Joss Bay, a hot August day way back when they were just 3 years old.

For this layout I used both sheets of Vicki Boutin - Bold + Bright paper. I used Light of Day for the base, and with a fine black marker pen I highlighted and doodled around the colourful circular design on the paper. I cut a photo into a circle (about the same size as the orange printed circle), and stuck this within and overlapping the circles.

With Spinning Wheels paper I cut a selection of wheels in different colours and sizes from about half the sheet of paper (keeping the rest for another layout - shown below). I cut some circles in half and placed them around the edges of the page. Then with four large wheels I created flowers along the bottom of the layout. Back in with the pen, more doodling and highlighting!
I placed some large enamel dots (from my stash) into the flower centres.

I made my title with the puffy thickers from the kit, and a little journalling.

Vacay Vibes - Another photo from the early summer days with the children, Aboard Glisser in Woolverstone Marina. This is inspired by a layout from Paige Evans.

For this layout I used the sheet of Avalanche Bazzill as the foundation. Then I cut 5.5cm Hexagons from a selection of papers from this kit and a few from previous kits so that all the hexagons were different. I used both sides of Picnic Plaid, one side of  Spinning Wheels, Adventurous #21, Get Away. I used a die from a Memory Box set. the edges of each paper shape was distressed before adding it to the page.  I also cut a photo using the die for the centre of the arrangement.

I embellished the hexagons with a variety of words and phrases cut from the papers, and embellishments from the kit. I started with a puffy thickers phrase for the title. Then one another hexagon I added three of the AALL & Create labels from the kit, added my own journalling to these.

I cut phrases from the Get Away paper, and some labels from Adventurous #21 paper adding these to the hexagons.

I bunched some labels together, and stuck them to one of the hexagons with some twine through the holes. I added more journalling to these labels.

With a black pen I added doodling to the edges of the hexagons. Then I drew lines around each of the phrases to reflect the doodling on the AALL & Create labels.

Finally, I scattered the water droplets from the kit, over the page.

April Papermaze Kit - Part 2

 

Lynn here with my second pair of layouts made with the pretty Papermaze kit for April. The kit contains a beautiful range of purples, pinks, greens and blues. This month I have updated two old layouts I made many years ago.

Wash Day - This layout shows a photo of my Nan from the 1950's, she was looking around for something for my Dad to take a photo of in the back garden, while hanging out the washing!

I gutted the Teal Paper 2 of 1.5" deep. Then I trimmed the Twilight Bazzill to measure 10" x 10" and placed it centrally over the teal frame. The Tie Dye paper was cut down to 9.75" x 9.75" and mounted over the blue cardstock.

With the large photo arranged to the left side of the photo, I attached a piece of white cord, across the page, so it would extend the washing line in the photo, to the edges of the layout. I printed my journalling onto some white card and cut it to resemble a towel waving in the breeze. This was hung to the washing line with some tiny wooden pegs. I added two more pegs to the line.

My title was made with American Crafts Thickers - Dear Lizzie - glitter chipboard letter stickers.

My flower clusters were made with scraps of papers from the kit, using the Sizzix Tim Holtz Thinlits set - Small Tattered Flowers. The edges were inked with Distress Inks.

Finally, I placed large flat-backed pearls into the centres of the flowers.



Catherine at Pecorama - Another layout remake. This one shows my daughter, Catherine on the zip wire at Pecorama, Devon.

I made this layout using the Romance Bazzill. The with the Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush stencil and several colours of Distress Oxide Ink, I created the background. Then I cut a wavy edge from two pieces of Stamped Hearts paper. These edges were distressed and placed at the top and bottom of the page.

As the name 'Catherine' has nine letters, I made nine tags, and with some old Making Memories eyelet letters, I inked the tags and attached the letters to the holes at the top of the tags. Then I added nine coloured eyelets along the top of the layout. Next the tags were attached with some 3D foam pads and joined to the eyelets with some jute twine.

The photos were trimmed to focus on Catherine as she twisted and turned on the zip wire. Then these were arranged across the layout.

April Papermaze Kit - Part 1

Lynn here with the pretty Papermaze kit for April. There is a lovely range of colours, purples, pinks, greens and blues in this month's selection. I have been experimenting with Distress Watercolour Pencils and Distress Oxide Inks.

Blinky the Owl - A photo from a trip to Hall Place Gardens and the Jamb Owl Centre.

On my most recent visit to Papermaze, I treated myself to a tin of Distress Watercolour Pencils (set 2). I was keen to try these out, so I selected the colours, I felt complimented the papers in this kit - Mermaid Lagoon, Prize Ribbon, Kitsch Flamingo, Seedless Preserve and Iced Spruce. I scribbled some rays radiating from the centre of the sheet of Coconut Swirl Bazzill, Mixing two or three colours in each ray. Then I took a water brush and ran it along the length of the rays, and the colours blended beautifully. Once dry I trimmed this cardstock to measure 11" x 11".

I cut nine wedge shaped pieces from 'Petals' and 'Floral' papers. I distressed all the edges, and inked them with Black Soot Distress Ink. These were attached, over the rays, radiating out from the centre. With black thread and the sewing machine, I stitched around the outside of the cardstock. Then I stitched along the centre of each of the wedge shaped pieces. I used a combination of zig-zag and straight stitches. 

The white cardstock was mounted over the Juneberry Bazzill from the kit, this was gutted first. I placed my photo into the centre of the photo. With a set of Memory Box feather dies, I cut six feathers from scraps of papers already used. I inked the edges with more Black Soot. The feathers were scattered around the photo, using 3D foam pads.

Using my Cricut and a scrap of the Juneberry Bazzill I created my title, and stuck this to the bottom right of the photo. Then I added journalling with a black marker pen.

Finally, I added the pearls from the kit, in clusters of three, all over the page.

This layout uses a combination of cutfiles and Distress Oxide Inks. First, I cut the 'Filmstrips Background' Peartree Cutfile from some scrap cardstock. This was placed onto a sheet of smooth white cardstock, to be used as a stencil.

With a combination of Distress Oxide Inks (Villainous Potion, Shaded Lilac, Salvaged Patina and Salvaged Patina), I worked the ink over the stencil with a blending tool. Once the stencil was removed, I spritzed a little water over the page.

My photos were mounted onto white card and placed in the centre of the page. Then I cut the 'Caught On Film' Peartree Cutfile using the Jade Bazzill. I backed the cutfile with one tiny image, and white card. I wrote my journalling onto the card with a black marker pen. The date was created with Doodlebug Designs Alphabet Soup puffy stickers in Swimming Pool.

I added the three wooden butterflies from the kit, adding some DMC embroidery thread through the holes and tying it to create antenna. I also place the Rosie's Studio flower ephemera around the photos using some 3D foam pads. I punched some leaves using more of the scrap papers and tucked these around the flowers.

I finished off with some Nuvo Glitter Drops to highlight the leaves and flowers. Dots of Nuvo Crystal Drops were added to the background of the layout.
