Simple Stories - Simply Vintage Sand & Sea - Shetland

Lynn here today with another layout using The Simple Stories - Simple Vintage Sand and Sea collection. I have had great fun using the gentler colours from this collection, but I'll be back with layouts using the stronger colours next time!

This layout shows photos from my recent adventures in Shetland. While we were there, filming was taking place for the BBC TV Series 'Shetland', and here are photos of the home of Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez, known as The Lodberrie. 

I selected the sheet of Journal Elements paper, with the sand and sea side up (This sheet was gutted, to give me a 1" deep frame). Then I trimmed Smooth White Bazzill to 11" x 11", and inked the edges with Tea Dye Distress Ink. Then I splattered watered-down Distress Oxide Ink (Tea Dye and Uncharted Mariner), vertically through the centre of the cardstock. Once dry the card was mounted over the frame.

I trimmed the photos and placed them to the right of a 11" x 4" piece of Tides and Treasures paper. Before sticking this to the page, I trimmed the long sides with strips torn from the Enjoy the View paper.

I cut a tag from the Tag Elements paper, and punched a hole in the top. With a length of white seam binding ribbon, and some more watered down inks (colours as above), I dip dyed the ribbon and set it aside to dry. Then the ribbon was looped through the tag and tied in a bow. I added a date using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Alphanumeric die set - Label and scraps of papers already used. I tucked the tag into the top right of the photo band.

Next, I made the title - I used sand paper with a heavy grit, and a Sizzix Bigz xl alphabet die. Once the letters were glued to the layout, I perched a seagull on the letters from the 49 and Market Summer Porch Laser Cut Elements pack. 

From the pack of Journal Bits - I selected a journalling spot, which I placed to the left of the photos, and added my details. I then fussy cut the camera from the and rowing boat from the Summer Porch collection.

From the sheet of Combo Elements paper, I cut the phrases 'high tides + good vibes' and  'sand + sea', placing one above the tag and the other below the row boat.

February Papermaze Kit - Part 1

Hello, Lynn with you today, sharing details and layouts using the new February kit from Papermaze. Pretty romantic papers , together with Bazzill cardstock and embellishments. Both of these first two layouts, were based on stitching ideas.

Family Gathering - This photo shows us all gathering for Easter and an Egg hunt in the garden.



I gutted the Blush Floral paper to make a 1" frame, then I trimmed the Tutu Pink Bazzill to 11" x 11", and mounted it over the frame. I splatted the cardstock with pink, green and brown shades of Distress Oxide Inks.

Using Tim Holtz Stacked Tiles - Hearts Sizzix Die set, I cut 16 of the largest hearts from a thin cork sheet. I arranged these in four rows of four across the page. With the next two sizes of heart die from the same set, I cut 16 more hearts from the green side, and 16 more from the pink side of the Blush Floral paper. These were laid on top of the cork hearts, and I ran the sewing machine from top to bottom over each row, without any thread and set to a long stitch length.

I used 2 strands of DMC Embroidery thread, and stitched through the holes, catching in sequins here and there as I went. The photo was mounted to the bottom left of the page.

With Rosie's Studio, Simply Charming Puffy Alphabet Stickers, I placed a title onto the layout.
Then I added the date with Sizzix Alphanumeric Label die set.

Mary Jane Billington - This old photo was given to us recently; the lady is my husband's grandmother.

I started by drawing an 11" circle in pencil onto the Stonehenge Bazzill. I pricked holes around the circumference of the circle, roughly 0.75" apart. Using the P13 Love Stories #05 paper, I cut a piece 10" x 8.75", distressed the edges and placed it in the centre of the Bazzill near to the top.

With brown seam binding ribbon on the top of the circle, I caught this in place through the punched holes, using DMC embroidery thread.

I used scraps of other papers, used in previous layouts to embellish this page. P13 Love Stories #01 paper, cut to 5.5" x 6", which I placed at the centre base of the ribbon. The photo was mounted onto a piece of Blush Floral paper, and placed to the right side of the previous piece.

I also cut several pieces from the P13 Love Stories #01 paper, using the floral side, and some panels from the #05 paper, these were all distressed and tucked around the photo. I used some of the panels as a journalling spot.

I found some old metal flowers, with pearl brads in my stash, and added them to the ribbon circle. The photo was embellished with two pieces from the P13 Light Chipboard Embellishments.

Using the Cricut I cut the lettering for the date and title using both the Sweetheart and Dusk Bazzill.

December Papermaze Kit - Part 2

Lynn here today, wishing you a happy new year! Christmas may be over, but if you want to scrap this year's photos, here are two more layouts using the December Papermaze kit. The pack is full of traditional Christmas colours - papers, embellishments and Bazzill cardstock.

Nativity - Here are the children all dressed up for the annual Christingle service.

I gutted the sheet of Pomegranate Splash Bazzill to make a frame 1", then trimmed the Filled with Wonder, paper to measure 11.5" x 11.5", then made two tears into the paper one from the top and the other from the bottom. I used the holly side of the Holiday Wishes paper to fill the gaps.  All the edges were distressed and inked with Festive Berries Distress Ink. I placed the paper centrally over the Bazzill.

I matted the photo with cream and more Pomegranate Splash Bazzill. With 3 of the cards cut from the 3x4 Journalling Cards paper (I chose those which gave me room for journalling), placed to the right of the layout, overlapping one another. I added the photo to the centre of the page.

I used some old stickers from my stash - (Holiday Traditions, die cut alphabet stickers from K and Co.) and used them to add a title and a date. My journalling was one of the cards. I added image stickers from the same collection, to embellish the page.

With two lengths of seam binding ribbon in a deep red, I placed a short length near the top left and a longer length running from the bottom right. I added a bow in the same ribbon at the end of the longer piece.

Finally, using the Tim Holtz, Sizzix Thinlits Seasonal Sketch set, metallic gold card and Aspen and Pomegranate Splash Bazzill, I made three clusters of flowers to add to the layout.

Holiday Magic - This super photo shows a professional photo of my great nieces, Christmas 2023.

For this layout I chose the sheet of Holiday Floral paper for the background. Then from the Natural Bazzill, I cut the Winter Berries Peartree Cutfile.

I backed the cutfile using scraps of Bazzill, then highlighted the leaves and berries with marker pens in darker shades of the same colours.

The wreath was placed the centre of the layout using 3-D foam pads to give some dimension. I placed the photo onto the page in the middle of the wreath.

From the kit embellishments, I chose the All Wrapped Up - Puffy Word Stickers, as my title, together with the strip of gold pearls which I scattered over the page.

In keeping with the gold embellishments, I used some Doodlebug Designs Alphabet Soup stickers to add the date.

Finally I covered the photo, and splattered a little white acrylic paint over the whole page.

September Papermaze Kit - Part 2

Lynn here today, back with the second pair of layouts using the Papermaze September Kit. The travel destination themed papers inspired me to stick with my continental theme from before, and create two more Parisian layouts featuring the artwork of the Metro station kiosks.

 

Before looking at how the layouts were made, here is a reminder of what you will find in the kit. For full details, please see earlier Blog post PART 1.

Metropolitan - This layout shows a photo of the entrance to the Art Nouveau style metro entrance designed by Hector Gumard. I wanted to pick out the colour and style of the cast iron kiosk to the Rome Station and so I used embossing enamel, and a font and to create the title.

To make this page I started by gutting the sheet of Ciao Bella - The Sound of Summer collection - Coastal Wood. Then I trimmed the Natural Bazzill down to 28cm x 28cm and inked the edges with Gathered twigs Distress Ink (I treated all the cut edges of the layout with the same ink), this was placed over the wood frame.

From the sheet of Simple Stories - Simple Vintage Coastal collection - Paradise Found I fussy cut the palm tree and flowers and set them aside. Then from the rest of the sheet I punched two rows of Daisy fans using the Martha Stewart deep border punch. Then I cut three rows of fans from the Quartz Bazzill and two rows from the Mocha Divine Bazzill. These were trimmed to different lengths and arranged on the page. I divided the washi tape into three pieces and added two of them to the page between rows of punched Bazzill (saving the last piece of washi tape for the next page). 

I typed my journalling and printed it out, then mounted it and the photo onto the pink map side of the Paradise Found paper. I arrange these onto the page together with the palm tree and flowers. and glued them in place, the photo and journalling were glued flat and the tree and flowers were mounted with 3D foam tape.

Next the title - I chose an Art Nouveau style font and adjusted the size of the letters so they were larger at the beginning and end and faded to smaller in the centre. I used some of the Mocha Divine Bazzill to cut the title, then embossed the letters with Stampendous Frantage Aged Teal Embossing Enamel. I arranged the letters across the top of the layout.

I embellished the page with some large flat-backed pearls and some pink gems. I also used the two thought tokens, tied with some of the twine from the kit and placed at them base of the tree.

Palais Royal - Kiosque des Noctambules - For this page, I chose a photo of the Palace Colette entrance to the Palaise Royal Station where we alighted for the Muśee de Louvre.  This amazing structure designed by Jean-Michel Othaniel is made of blown glass beads threaded onto an aluminum structure. It is called 'The Kiosk of the Night Walkers' and has two cupolas - one representing day, the other night.

First I gutted the Blue Bazzill to make a frame 2.5cm deep. Over this I mounted the
Bo Bunny - Boulevard collection - De Versailles paper trimmed to 29cm x 29cm, print side up. I distressed the edges and inked them with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. (the same ink was used to ink all the paper and card edges for this layout.) A piece 22cm x 17cm was gutted from the De Versailles paper and saved for later (for cutting position, see photo and gut under trimmed Blue Bazzill).

I cut remaining Blue Bazzill to measure 26cm x 21cm and trimmed the two long edges with a border punch (I used a Martha Stewart punch). This was placed over the gap on the paper. I flipped the piece of De Versailles paper harlequin side up and attached this over the trimmed Blue Bazzill.

I used some scraps of Stonehenge Bazzill and cut a 15.5cm scalloped circle and two scalloped strips 28cm x 3cm. I punched holes along the strips and laced them together with some cream seam binding ribbon. This was attached down the right side of the page with 3D foam tape. The scalloped circle was decorated with a 13.5 cm circle of Ciao Bella - The Sound of Summer collection - Coastal Wood paper, music side up. The whole scalloped circle was mounted over the scalloped strips 9cm down from the top of the page.  

I mounted the photo onto a scrap of the Coastal Wood paper and this was placed onto the left of the layout, again I used 3D foam tape.

To represent the day cupola I used red and yellow gems in a line above and below the photo on the harlequin points of the De Versailles paper. I used blue and aqua gems on the scallops to represent the night cupola.  

For the title I used Pinkfresh Puffy Studio Puffy Alpha Stickers - Joyful Day. The subtitle was created with Pinkfresh Studio Mini Puffy Alpha Stickers - Everyday Musings and Just a Little Lovely. 

 

I typed the journalling and mounted it onto Blue Bazzill, then I attached it to the circle. 

I used the blue flower from the kit, with a few fronds punched from scraps of patterned paper using a Martha Stewart punch. 

Finally I used the last piece of washi tape and ran this along the bottom of the layout.
