September Papermaze Kit

Hello, Lynn here to introduce the versatile September Papermaze Kit - with a mix of papers and embellishments in soft neutral colours. Ideal for many different themes including heritage, nautical, masculine or feminine.

I have created four layouts, two heritage and two with very recent photos. I have used chipboard in all of my layouts, from three different companies, all available from Papermaze.

Ferrisa Banks - (1850 - 1934) The details of this ancestor's life will be on my personal blog, and I will put them on the back of the layout for future generations to find.

For this layout I used a Tumbled Glass Distress Ink pad to ink the edges of the papers and card.

I built up the page using a sheet of scrap 12" x 12" paper as a base. Working from the outer edges I first placed 2.5cm strips of Dusk Bazzill. Next came strips of 'We Do!' paper cut to 2.5cm and trimmed with a Martha Stewart border punch - I used the pale blue side. I flipped this paper to the brown floral side and tore 2.5cm strips.  With the blue side of the 'In Flight' paper I cut 3cm wide pieces for each side and trimmed them with another Martha Stewart border punch.

To these paper layers I added strips of lace.

The gap between the strips of paper and lace were filled with a piece of Powder Blue Bazzill trimmed to 21cm wide. I stamped this randomly with the script stamp from the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Entomology stamp, using an Archival Ink Pad - Potting Soil.

I tied two lengths of pale blue seam binding ribbon around the cardstock with a bow to the right side.

I selected a chipboard clock face from Tando Creative and treated this with clear embossing ink and Stampendous Shabby Blue Embossing Enamel.

My photo was trimmed and attached to the film strip card from the kit.

The Flower Buds piece from a chipboard set by Dusty Attic, was treated with a coat of Gesso. Then I added Walnut Stain and Antique Linen Distress Paints.

All the above pieces and the photo were arranged onto the page, then I embellished with Tim Holtz Idea-ology Filmstrip ribbon, fussy cut butterflies from the 'In Flight' paper, and the quote chips from the kit.

I die cut a title from the Dusk Bazzill and finally added Nuvo Glitter Drops to the butterfly wings and the flower buds.

Elizabeth Humbley Banks - (1796 - 1861) - Another ancestor from the same family line as Ferrisa.

With the Pigment Bazzill as my base, I used a stencil by That Special Touch and several Distress Ink Pads in shades of brown, to create a script background. I inked the edges with more Distress Ink. 

I tore the top from the Soulmate #02 paper at an angle, then trimmed a tiny strip from the other three sides. This was mounted towards the bottom of the Bazzill.

I chose two Scrapiniec Chipboard pieces, a lantern and a frame. These were both treated with clear embossing ink and some copper embossing powder. 

My photo was trimmed and mounted inside the frame before attaching it to the top left, overlapping the card and paper. I used the lace from the kit to tuck along the top edge of the paper. I also tucked half a small doily under the edge of the paper, to the right of the photo. Onto this I added the butterfly from the kit.

I placed the lantern to the bottom right of the page. With a selection of paper flowers from my stash I created floral clusters over the page. To these I added some pearls to the flower centres. The leaves were made from Dusk Bazzill using a die from Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Funky Foliage set.  

I cut my title on the Cricut and embossed it with clear embossing powder to give it a little shine. x

November Papermaze Kit - Part 2

 Lynn back today with part two of the November Papermaze Kit.The lovely soft colours in this collection are ideal for creating layouts displaying photos of russet, wind swept foliage, fallen fir cones, berries and fields of pumpkins. With this in mind here are my second pair of layouts.

Autumn Leaves - This photo shows Emily during her red hair phase. She was visiting Hall Place, Bexley to do an autumn photo shoot together with a fellow A level photography student. The photo reminds me of the line about autumn leaves from the 'Windmills of your Mind' song. Although I slightly changed the words for my long title, otherwise it would have been even longer!

For this page I cut pieces from two sheets of patterned paper, cutting a piece at an angle from the top of '2nd Avenue' (before cutting I chose a few images from the flip side for later). I set aside the floral heart for this page and the little house for the next layout.

I dripped some Antique Bronze Distress Paint along the angled edge of the '2nd Avenue' (fawn side), and allowed it to dribble down the page. Once dry this was placed onto a spare piece of 12" x 12" paper, then I cut a piece from 'Sweet Serenity' to fill the gap at the top of the page.

With the Sizzix 'Vintage Lace' Sizzlit die I created some lace from the Black Bazzil, and placed this along the join between the two papers. Then I added two strands of the twine from the kit.

The kit contains a whole pack of Tando leaves, and after coating these with Gesso, I dipped them into a mix of autumn shades of Distress Oxide Inks. Once dry I decorated with patches of Gilding flakes to give them some shimmer.

I chose a selection of frames from the 'My Favourite' paper. These were carefully cut out and arranged in clusters above and below where the photo would be and also on the bottom right of the page. 

My photo was backed with Black Bazzill, raised with foam and stuck into position. The leaves were scattered, cascading down from the photo, saving one for the frames at the top of the photo and another for the cluster at the bottom of the layout. 

I added the paper flowers from the kit to each area where the frames had been placed. For the cluster at the bottom I added the heart saved earlier, and a tiny bow made from left over twine. I added some journalling in this area too. 

I raided my box of letter stickers and from many different packs I put together my long title.

Finally the Dew Drops from the kit were placed among the leaves. 

The Prior's Pumpkin Patch - For my last page I selected this photo of my little niece. She is sitting on the doorstep proudly showing off the carved pumpkins the family picked and carved the day before.  

This layout makes good use of the patterned paper left over from the previous three layouts. The base is the sheet of Fawn Bazzill. Then I did a lot of layering by cutting the scraps of papers as listed below.

I mounted my photo onto white card and placed it over the layers of paper, without sticking the edges down, to allow me to tuck elements underneath. 

I cut a few more of the frames from 'My Favourite' paper and used these in various places, including one for a little journalling. The black mini doily was tucked under the corner of the photo with a circular frame and the puffy heart layered on top.

I added in some phrases from the '2nd Avenue' paperwith the wooden dots and the layered heart sticker from the kit. 

My title was made from several different Basic Grey alphabet sticker sheets. I made them pop by outlining them with a fine black pen.

Finally I placed some paper leaves from my stash around the photo.

September Papermaze Kit

Hey, Lynn here today with the travel destination themed September Papermaze kit. I can see many layouts of holidays abroad being created with these beautiful rustic papers.

Travel - This layout uses a photo of a pretty view from a trip to Lake Garda, Italy. I wanted to make it look like the view from a window as it was taken from out table in a restaurant in Malcesine with Monte Baldo in the background. 

I started with a sheet of Coastal Bazzill and using a Tim Holtz Layering Stencil - Gothic, I worked Evergreen Distress Ink through the stencil with a blending tool. Then I moved the stencil and repeated the process with white texture paste and a pallet knife.

I attached the photo and with the Tim Holtz Window Frame Bigz die, I cut two windows from mount board, I also cut a few strips of mount board to join the windows together to create a window frame and two windows thrown wide open. I painted the pieces with Evergreen Bough Distress Paint. Once dry I rubbed in some bronze gilding wax to create aging and shading. I then glued the pieces around the photo to create the scene. Gold holeless beads were added to the windows.

From both the Prima Capri papers, I fussy cut large and small flowers, butterflies and various other images including some of the foiled pieces. These were inked with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and arranged around the photo, some were raised on 3D tape.  

I used a scrap of the mount board and a little of the Quartz Bazzill to cut the 'Travel' title using Sizzix Shadow Script 3 Thinlits die set. I scribbled my journalling onto the Stamperia tag from the kit, then I tied it to the title, attaching it to the layout with more 3D tape.

Paris - The photos on this page were taken when we visited the Eiffel Tower, the lift was not working so we took the stairs!! The photos are of views on the way and a photo from the ground looking up.

For this layout I gutted the Stonehenge Bazzil, making a frame of 4cm deep. Then I took the
Kaisercraft - Ladylike collection - Pearl paper and tore all four edges. I inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, and added a couple of tears into the paper. I stamped around the edges with the 49 & Market stitching stamp from the kit.

I  fussy cut more images from the Prima Capri papers - flowers, postage stamps and foiled images, and arranged these with two doilies and the three photos onto the page.

I applied the paper over the Bazzill frame, tucking a small piece from each doily under each tears in the paper.

I painted the Tando chipboard bookplate with some Hickory Smoke Distress Paint, and some more Gilding wax. This was applied over some pleated seam binding ribbon. I used a scrap of the Capri paper in the space in the bookplate. I used 3D foam tape to attach the bookplate, and added silver brads to the holes on each side. With a short length of twine, I added a tiny silver Eiffel Tower charm to the base of the bookplate.

From the foiled areas of the scraps of the Capri papers, I cut the word 'Paris' and the date using the Sizzix Thinlits die set - Alphanumeric Label.

Finally I added the pink dew drops and the paper flowers to the page (adding a few extra from my stash).

'Woodland Wander' and 'Memories in the Woods' - using Shimelle's 'Never Grow Up' Collection

Hello, Rebecca here with you this morning to share my final two layouts which I've created using the 'Never Grow Up' collection by Shimelle for American Crafts. I have absolutely loved working with this collection - it's full of bright colours and has an 'outdoorsy' feel to it so it's been great for documenting all our recent photos.

 I've recently treated myself to a silhouette cameo 4 so for the first layout I've used a cutfile and focused on the Acetate Sheet.

I selected black cardstock for the cutfile as I really wanted the colours in the acetate to stand out against the white background. I backed the larger circles in the cutfile and all of the stars using the acetate sheet. 

I focused on the darker shades on the acetate as they went really well with my photo. I've saved the orange and yellow sections to use on another layout.

Next I applied drops of Glossy Accents into the circles I hadn't backed, and added sequins in co-ordinating colours to complement the acetate sheet. I wanted  it to look like the sequins had been randomly placed so I overlapped some of them. 

I adhered the cutfile to my cardstock using black foam pads to add dimension and shadows to the page. I trimmed the cardstock down on either side and distressed the edges and then added torn strips of the 'Forever Young' and 'Past Bedtime' patterned papers to help frame the page.

I matted my photo onto layers of white and black cardstock and added it to my layout with a layer of adhesive foam behind it so raise it off of the cutfile slightly. I then added a couple of stickers from the Accent and Phrase Stickers sheet and created a tab which reads 'Let them be Little' from the Forever Young patterned paper.

I finished off with my title using mini alphabet thickers from my stash.

This layout was really simple and came together quite quickly (for me!). I love the way the colours in the acetate look really crisp against the white really 'pop' off the page.


Here's a look at my second layout:

I've used the 'Summer Adventures' patterned paper at the top and bottom of my layout. I tore the edges and distressed them to give the layout a rustic feel. I also downloaded a cutfile for my title and cut it using the same paper. 

I mounted my photos onto cardstock which co-ordinates with the collection and added a couple of journalling cards from the 'Life is the Bubbles' patterned paper underneath.

I embellished the layout using some pieces from the Floral Ephemera pack and some stickers from the Accent and Phrase stickers sheet, creating 3 clusters to form a visual triangle around my photos.

I finished my layout by adding a chipboard leaf by Tando Creative, which I've painted with acrylic paint and a scattering of green sequins.

'Fresh Air' - 12x12 Layout using Shimelle's 'Never Grow Up' collection

Hello, Rebecca dropping by today to share another layout I've created using the gorgeous 'Never Grow Up' collection by Shimelle. This collection has been great for documenting our recent days out now that the Covid-19 restrictions have been relaxed slightly. We've been back out enjoying our National Trust membership so I've not been short of photos to go with this amazing collection.

I started this layout by cutting and distressing a strip of the 'Forever Young' patterned paper (B side) to sit vertically down the centre of my page. I then added strips of the 'Past Bedtime' patterned paper (B side) either side of it as I felt that the two papers contrasted really well with one being light and the other being quite dark.

In the photos, my little boy is sat on a rustic tree swing made of a plank of wood and some ropes, so I decided to try and mimic this texture on my layout by adding some twine materials. I have a reel of twine netting which I added so that it was peeking out from behind the patterned papers on both sides, and some actual twine which I wrapped around the centre of my cardstock vertically so that they crossed over in the middle. I then dug out an old 12x12 stencil by Kaisercraft of a fisherman's net and pressed some texture paste through it in certain places on my background. Once this was dry I adhered everything down. I used Glossy Accents to stick the twine down as I find it really strong and it holds really well.

I matted both of my photos on white cardstock to help them pop off the page, and then on two different patterned papers from Shimelle's 'Field Trip' collection as the colours complemented the layout perfectly. I distressed all the edges using the blade of my scissors to try and continue with the 'rustic' feel of the layout.

I cut out and distressed a few of the journalling cards from the 'Life is the Bubbles' patterned paper (B side), and tucked them behind the twine so that they would be visible above and below my photos. I then adhered my photos to the layout, adding a layer of foam behind them.

Now on to the fun part of embellishing! I started by painting a ''Tando Creative Chipboard Leaf' with green acrylic paint. It took a matter of minutes to dry, so I adhered it straight away using glossy accents to keep it in place.

I added some flowers from the Floral Ephemera pack, and a couple of insect stickers from the Puffy Stickers sheet.

I finished the layout with some stickers from the Accent and Phrase Stickers sheet, and my title using some mini alphabet thickers by Elle's Studio from my stash.

And that's it from me! I love this layout - the colours, the textures... and of course the photos! I do have a couple more layouts that I have created using this collection (once I received it I just couldn't stop creating!) so there will be a 'bonus' blog at some point next week - so keep an eye out!
